I've towed some big trailers with my GT TDI, no problems apart from FWD in certain situations. I'd suggest not using it for a massive boat on a wet ramp for instance! It's only a small car afterall!

The 125 is a bigger leap from the 103 than is obvious, won't feel THAT different in gear, but has a lot of technological advances. I think that's the colour of choice in the MK6, will be a nice ride!

Saw a towbar fitted to a Comfortline the other day and became so stressed out over its ugliness that I cancelled the towbar on the GTD.
Apparently, we are not able to have the Euro one here because of ADR'S. Seems strange to me that we don't think that the Germans can design a safe towbar. The Euro one needs no cutting and becomes invisible when removed. Sad really.

You don't like the one with the removable tongue? I don't even notice mine with the tongue removed - and it IS a tractor afterall : )

You could undo the two 5/8 bolts and take the tongue off, then see the horrible slot with a big hunk of railway line peeking out! Anyway, I'm gunna get an old ute with a towbar. Wont cost much more than the towbar either!

Mate mine is one of these from NZ, one quick release pin and it's off. Sure there's a bit left, but hardly a major thing. The price from VW is INSANE though....

I have one of these on the TDI Edition. I didn't really care what it looked like, just how it performs. Yes, high price, but no matter what you do, you're still going to pay around the same price. We paid $1400 for ours, but it works as intended.

At least REGS12, your car LOOKS good, but unfortunately you can't tow with it. I'm not sure what you expect a tow bar to look like.

Yes very sad. I was inquiring about the removable Polo towbar. VW parts person said they can get any part from around the world - just need a part number. Not sure how much they slug us for imports. No doubt the euro electrical plugs won't meet ADRs. Beyond that, I'm sure the German towbar is safe and probably better in the instance of shin injuries.

I have just started looking at options for towbars to put on my 6R Polo order [Which is hopefully arriving in a few weeks time].

The quote I got from VW was $1,600; which sounded crazy to me, so I have been searching for other options. But I am hearing that the canbus systems means that even alternatives are going to be expensive.

I am not sure what system they use on the Polos, whether it is the Euro style as discussed above; but that is what I was after.

If anyone comes up with anything for a Polo let me know!

Maybe an alternative would be to peruse the web in UK and buy just the bar, and have the wiring done by the dealer. When I looked for the Golf there were plenty of alternatives. It's hard though so good luck

Picked up GTD yesterday. It was a miserable wet day, making the 110km drive home through the hills slightly nerve racking.
New car is doing thing just like I thought it would. 125 CR engine is a pearler. Doesn't rip your pants off when you plant it like the 2.0 pd, just pulls strongly, far more refined, sort of like the silent asassin Ticking along in the street it is very respectable, unlike the 103 kw Comfortline, which did sound a little like a Land rover Defender. I need a 14 yr old kid to help me with the radio, the bluetooth and all the stuff on the info screen. I'm getting there, but now have a headache. The CSG GTD looks very classy and I cant help having a little look back when I walk away from it. Don't really know about the handling yet cos I haven't been "alone". So far----very pleased.
