    After discussing the WesFil brand with my mechanic (who services our other car), I got the WesFil WCF130 filter and used the o-ring from that (which was exactly the right size) to replace the split one, wetting it first with the diesel in the filter housing and then torquing up progressively in wheel nut/cylinder head fashion.

    One week later and it's all dry and clean Thanks to all, here.
