    Exhaust warning light on,

    Hi all
My wife was driving the golf (05 2.0tdi) today when the exhaust warning lamp came on with the exhaust workshop warning in the mfd. The car seems to drive fine with no change in the performance, the light is still on after the car had cooled down ( I ran it when I got home. The book says to take it to the dealer, any advice?

    & yes I have done a search & couldn't find anything relevant.

    cheers

we had a similar situation just recently on my wife's 1.6 Comfortline - it was a faulty Oxygen sensor which was replaced under warranty.

    Exhaust Gas Warning Lamp

Had the same thing in our Mk VI 2.0 TDI last night. Just under 30,000kms.

Manual is interesting. 3.1 Controls and Equipment says "Fault in Exhaust System - Go to Qualified Workshop"

Also says see booklet 3.3 Tips and Maintenance"

3.3 Tips and Maintenance section mind you on the Exhaust Gas Warning Lamp says that the Tip
"applies to Vehicles with a petrol engine and an exhaust gas warning lamp" and makes no mention of diesel.

Big help so it's off to the dealer on Monday and it will probably be the oxygen sensor.

As an aside, I add that the yellow print on white pages in the manual is very hard to read under car interior lights when you are looking for the various warning symbols

had mine scanned last Friday by my local mechanic, came up with egr failure. Fault was cleared & drove all day Saturday, fault reappeared late on Saturday with no change in the cars performance, going to the dealers on Monday.

Sounds like another sludge damaged egr valve or flap I'm sad to say. They are not cheap at several hundred each from the dealer, if out of warranty I'd go looking for non genuine. This is why I bang on about the absolute need for a good blowby catchcan people, will happen to all TDIs eventually, let alone the drop in performance and fuel economy a sludged up inlet causes. I hope I am wrong mate!

Ok, I'll put my hand up & admit that I haven’t paid as much attention to the golf as I should of (been a busy time of late). The car is now off lease & just out of warranty with 76K on the clock. Mostly driven by my wife so the right pedal doesn't get mashed down to the floor that much & it spent the last month in the garage while we were os on holidays.

So having now read your thread Greg I'll be doing some tinkering once it's fixed & i'll have to spend more time in it & a little less in the cupra!

Air mixture valve on TDI 103 Mk VI 29000 km

    Headed for the dealers today.

Diagnosis was that air mixture valve needed to be replaced apparently picked up by the lambda probe which triggered the exhaust gas warning lamp.

Said this is the first instance they have seen on Mk VI

Part has been ordered and will be replaced under warranty.

Car was delivered by dealer back to my workplace and driver didn't have the error codes.

Will get the codes tomorrow and post

Service desk did say that techs have been advidsed to check/clean EGR valve at service as they have replaced some of these already

EGR valve on mine, part ordered today & I should have the car back tomorrow. I asked about the condition of the other components as per Greg's thread, if i don't get a good enough explanation I'll pull it apart myself.
