When the inlet tract in my T5 or Golf will need cleaning I will spray inside the inlet tract with the Inter-Ject Diesel Care & Cure Cleaner when the engine is hot and leave it standing overnight that should get most of the gunk off.

Yes, the inlet manifold is part of the inlet tract. Nothing can be sprayed through the air filter (always after maf!).

It would be better to remove intercooler and all the pipes for cleaning.

There is nothing wrong with a bit if preventative maintenance but don't seek the problems. On most engines it will take more than 160,000 km until it will

have any ill effect on the performance. The inlet manifold will always have some black oily residue in it (no reason to panic), it is normal unless it is a

brand new engine. I'm not cleaning mine, not before I see the fuel economy and power from engine changed because of the sludge in the inlet tract.

Just enjoy driving the car. Have a faith in VW, that they didn’t build the TDI to last only 3 years 100,000km. Car market is very competitive and it

would be suicidal if they did. But also consider that, if someone modifies the car or the engine than he changed the VW product and VW should not be blamed.

Modified engine needs modified maintenance and it will have the modified life span.

Where would that gunk go in the morning? I guess it will cool down and stay there..
I was thinking about spraying into EGR flap motor section after disconnecting fat pipe that coming up from intercooler, not sure though..

What I did. Just be aware your inlet runners point downhill into the head, and will fill with the solvent. Despite letting mine air for several hours, it started like mad as the diesel "ate" the volatile solvent, did a major but brief rev, which on a cold, no oil pressure engine, isn't the best idea. Hence the initial video showing a air limiter in the inlet, to control any run away revs. VERY important!

It depends what you spray in. The Interject Diesel Care & Cure doesn't evaporate so I don't see a problem that after few hours it would turn onto the solid. I use Interject products for 10 years and use it on many engines with a great results, I don’t see the gunk from TDI engine would be any different.
It can be sprayed onto EGR flap and you don't have to wait several hours, but it works best when it has time to soak into.

Are you referring to EGR valve? I read somewhere it only kick in when engine is warm at cruising revs

    You detonated.
Very bad for the engine I wouldn't do it on regular bases.

Yes. Diesel Care & Cure is product code 420.
If you thinking of getting one, the smaller one ( Inter-Ject LB291/1F (401)) is ok for cleaning jobs and even diagnostics. Second tube on LB291/2F is for measuring fuel injectors flow.
    I have bouth units.
Always have this one in the van.
