I could have it cleaned out, for like $3-400 but I have essentially paid for this in extended warranty, so why should I pay twice?

Trust me, I am not that lazy ar$ehole who thinks the world owes me a favour. I see it more as VW's responsibility than mine, that's all.
What gldgti meant was that, if you as well as other car owners would push the dealer to do something about it, the things would have to change or improve. Meaning that they would have to come with improved air/oil separator instead of people fitting the Provent200 and similar.

To be fair Miro the GT has a much improved system over the 103 in the tappet cover and the MK6 I would assume is better again. Yeah it's not ideal, and to be honest it amazes me that such a good built in stock system still lets a lot by, and it probably wouldn't rear its ugly head below the typical kms done in the typical 3 year warranty period. There are evil sales people besides engineers at VW you know!

Also a proper picture of the EGR problem has only been made aware to me for under a week. It's beginning to throw engine error codes so it might fail quite soon. Also I'm thinking I might go halves with them in terms of cleaning it up.

Furthermore I calculate my l/km every week and over the life of the car it's barely changed nor does the car feel slower.
No it's cool mate, I'm just wary of anyone discrediting a very real and possibly expensive problem some second owner could inherit. The GT would have to be a desirable car for a P plater for instance, and imagine getting one and the EGR valve or flap goes at over a grand each or the DPF dies, and we know the nightmare cost there!

You're right Greg, our Tiguan TDI also has much better CV system than our 4 years old Golf. So, the VW is fully aware of the problem and are trying to make it right.

But I agree that Provent does a better job than currently much smaller device in rocker cover.

OK, I tried this two years ago when EGR tract was blocked and talking to VW was like hitting a brick wall. VW dealer was in complete denial saying it's very-very rear problem and perhaps it was bad fuel at some stage. I asked head tech and he recommended going for highway drive more often. They gave two years warranty on parts they fitted that will expire next month. I want to open EGR and inspect it, but from another hand if something happens with EGR system again I want to drive to this dealer and get it fixed not spending big $$. They got 50% paid by VWA first time which was around $700. Provent is always an option, but I just believe that VWA sold diesel cars here that were not suitable for our fuel and/or environment and should fix that by any means. I would buy the Provent kit as soon as it becomes available, but I don't feel comfortable to modify something that was wrong by design in the first place, it's VW and not Lada ! I guess if more people send angry letters to VWA then the brick wall might fall.

Ask your dealer. I can't see why a high quality, CE approved, german designed Provent that INCREASES oil scavenging would be in any way be a bad thing for the local VW service department, as it DECREASES the problem. Mann and Hummel, the manufacturer are a massive company, and it's one of the main reasons I am comfortable offering these kits, as all I am really doing is adding hose and a mount, the unit itself is tried and tested.

I will be approaching VW about approval on the kits, you can count on it. Already in discussions with my local VW tech centre, but it has to become a VWA thing. Will take time, and as you would expect, no one wants to admit there is actually a problem.

IT is exactly correct - no one in VWA wants to admit the problem because it might escalate to head office and cost $$ to fix + bad company image. Two years ago I asked them about Provent and whole idea of catch cans and anwer was - NO, we don't have a problem!

I 100% agree Greg. I'm all for preventative maintenance and sometimes it's hard to explain to people, because they blindly trust to VW engineers.

Yes i mentioned this in another thread, total denial... "dont you think Vw engineers have it covered etc etc", then imagine my surprise next service when some sort of "spray clean" for $200 odd dollars was offered?

It's probably been asked before but is this an issue only with the TDI's or are the petrol engine models suffering a similar issue to a lesser degree???
