I'll be placing the order with Western Filters tomorrow (online)

It looks like we have to wait for Fiat's Multiair valve actuation to be adopted before there is a proper solution to this mess (via intentional excess valve overlap) so to not void my warranty, I'll have to let my engine slowly choke...
On the plus side, Multiair will also allow camshaft tuning via the ECU so more remaps !!!

If you have Provent properly installed it shouldn't void your warranty. I have Provent in my T5 and rear crankshaft seal was leaking, all replaced under warranty, no question asked.

I thought that since the police hate cars with catch cans, it would also void warranty.
I guess it's dealer discretion so I should check with them first?

Only the typical style that vents to atmosphere. A properly installed provent is not illegal, and it could be easily argued that it makes your car even greener.

    Hey everyone.

I just had my 90,000 service and I got my mechanic to do have a look at the EGR and EGR pipe. These are the photos he sent me.

This is the EGR valve (sorry for lack of focus) and I thought it would have been thicker.

This is the EGR pipe. Man that **** is thick!

I have the extended warranty so for now I think I will wait for it to fail and get VW to replace the parts

Pardon me, but isn't that just a bit... If you know about this now, why not do something about it proactively....

If everyone that knew about some impending problem chose to ignore it because they knew that someone else would eventually be forced to deal with it... well. Is that really the country I live in?

Good luck maintaining your power and economy via ignoring it, but hey, your car.

Well I have been proactive every service, even with the dealer and I've never been given a proper answer.

Also I know that b/c VW don't put it as part of scheduled maintenance, they won't do anything proper about it, just band aid solutions.

I could have it cleaned out, for like $3-400 but I have essentially paid for this in extended warranty, so why should I pay twice?

Trust me, I am not that lazy ar$ehole who thinks the world owes me a favour. I see it more as VW's responsibility than mine, that's all.

I hope you haven't misunderstood me Greg. I haven't been ignoring it. I've tried to be proactive at every service, asking for a clean, using the wynn's spray cleaners etc.

Also a proper picture of the EGR problem has only been made aware to me for under a week. It's beginning to throw engine error codes so it might fail quite soon. Also I'm thinking I might go halves with them in terms of cleaning it up.

Furthermore I calculate my l/km every week and over the life of the car it's barely changed nor does the car feel slower.
