    DPF replacement options

    G'day All

Was getting a service done and the DPF was checked. Apparently it is full and needs replaced. They quoted $5000 for a new DPF plus fitting. So was wondering if i have any other options such as buying a new DPF from the UK if it's cheaper there and getting it fitted locally or anyone know a place in Sydney who can quote better? The car is a 2008 2.0 GT TDI and has hit 290000 km. I do about 1000 km a week so I'm pretty sure i would be burning off all the soot i can possibly get rid of on my daily drive to work. I have not seen the regen light pop on so i dont beleive its causing a massive issue right now. Don't want to get rid of the car but 5K + fitting is a bit much for me. I have seen western filters can do a DPF clean, has anyone tried this or know what sort of costs im looking at. I've only ever done basic maintenance on the car so i am not really keen on trying to clean it out myself. Thanks in advance for any info posted.

    Regards
    Devza

Have a look at the Greg Roles thread about DPF's.
From memory he cut his open, pressure washed the ash out of the core and it was good as new for a lot less.

I had a read through that already. Would love to attempt to do it but completely lack the skills to attempt unfortunately.

Gavin, hvw_100 I think?, may have an option of two for you

My mechanic offers a service where they take it off the car, run a crap ton of Liqui-moly fluid through it and then hose it out with a Pressure Washer. Sound pretty similar to the Western Filters service but I imagine they'll be a it more expensive.

BWA Auto they are, give them a call. They quoted me around $1k for this service.

Glad to see a GT Sport up at 290,000. Props! Mine's just coming up to 200,000km.

For now the best option are these, rebuilt DPF's out of Europe about $700 plus $100 post, straight bolt in. As to whether or not they are just recooked or brand new cores, that's worth asking about. There's also a DPF regeneration process at Western Filter in Sydney, and I can vouch for the fact a properly washed out DPF works fine, I'm 75k into my own one washed out by Gurney now. The Western Filter process is a proper one.

My own version is still a ways off, a lot involved in getting that legally passed, but it is happening!

I'll give Gavin a message and see what the thinks the options are.

Thanks for the info Greg and benough. Volksmuller at Annanngrove also do the DPF clean out so still trying to get prices since i still need the service done at the same time.
