Hey Guys,
Have recently bought a gt tdi 08' with 104,000ks...
DPF light has come on and stayed on after 1000k's...
Long story short, fully blocked, forced regen at VW didnt work, $4000 replacement!.
So I think I will have to go the DPF delete option...question is though, can anybody PM me an exhuast place in Melbourne that could take out the core of the DPF (to still look standard) before I get Custom Code tuning....

I do believe golfie above is indeed correct, that you have to get the DPF delete "pipe" from CCodes sister company JBS in order to have the delete done. My JBS pipe has a serial number on it, and according to the mighty Gav, the serial is linkled to the tune. If you do need to go the CCode tune, Gav and I have already spoken and you can have my pipe, as it takes forever to ship them here surface. I'm in no rush to fit and tune my car, so happy to help out someone in strife, and Gav can get another one on the slow boat for me.
There ARE other companies offering DPF off tunes in the UK etc, but to my knowledge and fairly extensive web research, only Custom Code have got it right thus far. AMD was looking good, but there's been a number of problems since. This will change, but for now it's a one man show!
The upside to all this if when you DO ditch the DPF, you have a HEAP less exhaust restriction, and your fuel economy for normal driving will increase rather nicely. Of course if you use the power all the time, then fuel is going to get burnt! There is a "mild tune", and with it being a second car, that'd be the way to go. I've read the standard "wild" tune is ultra responsive on the pedal, and quite aggressive.
Sadly I reckon you are the first of many people who are going to get stung with clogged DPF's in the next several years, and all you guys blissfully ignoring the problem are on a ticking bomb I'm afraid. Mine will clog one day too ( if it was left on ) but with the steps I've taken, I figure I'll get the maximum life out of it.
The other option is, of course, to cover Gav tuning my car, and I'd be willing to give up my 60k DPF, but theoretically any DPF is only supposed to last 150k's, less, unfortunately in your case. I've no way of guaranteeing the actual lifesapn of my DPF, but it has had an easier life than anyone else's I know of!

I am OK tuning the car with the standard pipe modified, I checked that and they have relaxed their rules somewhat.
It also seems that you can now buy the pipes from Milltek but as Greg has mentioned there's not a large field of tuners to pick from.
If you wanted to stay well within the law, cleaning out the VW DPF and fitting a 3rd party one elsewhere in the exhaust would work.
I agree with Greg, we should all be buying shares in DPF pipe manufacturers now before the boom.![]()

A few weeks back I had to "modify" the cat in my missus' diesel cabrolet (still has the gasser exhaust system on it from when the engine was swapped) because it became completely blocked
i reckon i gained about 15hp from blocked to unblocked - thats a lot when you only have 50hp to start with!

Thanks for all the great replies. I think I'm going to go down the path of the the miltek And tune...Greg I'll pm you about your pipe.
Out of interest sake and for everybodies knowledge in future (which I'm sure will happen) I'll pull the old one off and try to clean myself and see what happens...spoke to an exhaust place near by yesterday and they said they had pulled some (not vw mind you) and did the soak and clean with a air comp/high pressure from the outlet side, so backward flow and it had worked on occation. I'll let you all know how it gets on.
Such a pitty...for a car I couldn't stop raving about how good it was to mates when I first drove it, ah well, I'm sure I'll grin even more with de-dpf and tune when the turbo kicks in.

I'd suggest trying to backflush the VW DPF will be temporary at best, and unlikely to get you much more life at all. The channels in the DPF are not straight through, at all, and it's more akin to honeycomb in a Violet crumble than a "cat" that most people think of. The actual precious metal coating that acts as a catalyst also gets covered and as the surface area decreases, it clogs more and more until it completely fails.
Feel free to give it a go, but WHY would you go back from HEAPS more power and torque with reduced fuel use???
