Thread: DPF replacement...$4000!...Anybody know a good exhaust mod place in Melbourne?

  1. #21

We can do the DPF delete in the tune up here in Sydney if there is a need. I've been holding off as there are quite severe penalties to have a car without a DPF in place in NSW - maybe I'm just getting a bit soft. The price of a replacement DPF is equally absurd. Thinking about it though the tune can be done and then whether or not the physical DPF core is in place is not my/our problem.
You can do the same with adblue not that its an issue for anyone here

    Hi Guys,
In response to the comments above and just FYI for future reference.

Yes, the car was within time frame and just over K's for warranty. I put in a claim with VW Aus. for cover under a "goodwill" gesture but they decided not to cover it as I am the second owner and also because all servicing wasn't done at a VW dealer.

I have to say, Jim from Burwin was amazingly helpful and did as mich as he could to help me out even though the car had never been touched by them and he had no incentive to do so. So a hat tip to Jim at Burwin, I know people love to pay out on the "stealerships" etc etc but these guys were far more interested in helping with the cause than another well known Private Volkswagen specialist. So props to them, forced re-gen and manual re-gen attempt (couple of hours labor) at no cost too, of course not Burwin's decision as to whether it would be covered so have no gripe there.

Also, big props to the guys here who all pm'd and went out of the way to help a stranger on the inter-webs with a problem...

    Good forum here.

Sorry, I hate to bust your bubble but your a few weeks behind. We've been doing this for stock cars for a while and there's no need for a full remap or expensive delete dump or whatever , Its equally as viable for a fully remapped car too of course. Maybe I'm overly cautious in promoting these things but its really quite a naughty thing to do but still... it can be done very easily.
Oh yeah is not just VAG either we can do a lot of cars now too.

    Cheers

    LOL
hey I don't have a dedicated down pipe as such though (however I do have a big drill bit). I really need it for the trucks but unfortunatley its not an option at this stage... unless I sort it myself and that won't happen for about 5 years at my current rate
There's going to be heaps of these things dying soon too, I can smell it.

... or not smell it, as the case may be...

I think you're dead right though - the DPF looks like something just a little bit too sensitive for the real world to me - and clog up's appear to be on the rise. No doubt there'll be a design change soon enough.... I just wish the emissions laws and standards were constructed around a bit more common sense. Why does a small car that only burns 4-5l/100km of fuel really need a dpf... imagine the fuel savings if they could fit them with a straight pipe form the factory!

Back in the old days, the mk1 diesel got an omission from %NOx emissions in california, because even though the percentage of NOx was high in the exhaust, they used so little fuel and consequently produced so little emissoins overall that it made sense not to worry about it.... no such luck nowadays. Ahh well, back into my hole I crawl....

Trucks? I take it your talking about Isuzus?

Funny thing is, I sell MAN trucks, which use EGR with a PM Kat for Euro4 Emissions.... They have been running around this wide brown land for the last 3 years, and they haven't clogged one yet.

The Isuzu's we sell out of our same dealership.... Well, its probably easier to list the trucks that haven't had DPD faults....

Maybe cos of the design of the MAN one is constantly regenerating, rather than than occasional re-gens?
