DPF / MIL (check engine) lights on, help needed

    Hi,

As the title says, I am getting random DPF and MIL (check engine) lights come on (car is 2008 Skoda Octavia vRS). This has occurred several times over the last 10 days. The DPF has also been regenerating itself almost daily. Had to do the 80kmh in 4th 3 times to get rid of the filter light.

The MIL is not accompanied with any text in the MFD nor any noticeable performance degrade, which is contrary to the owners manual saying it should be in limp mode.

I have had a look with VCDS measuring block 109 and it shows 39.1 grams ash and 23.7 grams carbon.

The MIL light is caused by:

Address 01: Engine (CEG) Labels: 03L-906-022-CBA.clb
    Part No SW: 03L 906 022 HF HW: 03L 906 022 GA
    Component: R4 2,0L EDC G000AG 2842
    Revision: --H01--- Serial number: SKX7Z0H632H0RA
    Coding: 0000078

    VCID: 70E5278E6357C498D1C

    Pressure: 54 mbar
    (no units): 0.0
    Temperature: 32.4°C

    Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0

Looking at the OBD2 functions of VCDS, I found:

    Mode 01 - PID 01 : Readiness -- Address 7E8

Number of DTCs stored: 0 -- MIL Status: MIL OFF
    Misfire monitoring: Not installed.
    Fuel System: Passed
    Comprehensive Components: Passed
    Catalyst monitoring: Not installed.
    Heated catalyst monitoring: Not installed.
    Evaporative system monitoring: Not installed.
Secondary air system monitoring: Not installed.
A/C system refrigerant monitoring: Not installed.
Oxygen sensor monitoring: Failed or Incomplete
Oxygen sensor heater monitoring: Not installed.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Failed or Incomplete

    My questions are,

    1. What do the above scans mean?
    2. Do I have a sensor failure that's causing grief or a DPF that is crook?
    3. Any recommendations on getting the car working properly? If its a sensor, would that be covered under warranty (I have 27mths extended left)

The car has been regularly serviced (by JMac here in Brisbane) so I don't think poor quality oils are an issue.

I have read the posts about DPF delete, which I don't really want to do, let alone know where to get the work done with decent remap of the ECU.

There was mention in the 'DPF wash out and rebuild' thread by Greg Roles (post 49) about the chemical cleaning . Is that a viable option or shonky like the 'fuel savers' and power chips on ebay.

There is also talk about 'provent' systems as a preventative measure which I also open to fitting.

Is there someone in Brisbane that can do the work? (DPF Clean, rebuild, delete, provent fitting) Any ideas on cost?

Look forward to any advice / recommendations

    Thanks for reading

    Tom

known issue.. replace the G450 pressure sensor. adapt it to the engine ecu and carry out a service regen of DPF. all will be ok... PM if you need more info or warranty will not pay... depends on what type of extended warranty you have.... ..VDUB...

    VDUB,
Thanks very much for the info. I spent hours searching forums, but never found an answer. I have an allianz extended new car warranty, went through both theirs and Skoda PDS and were almost word for word. I will talk to them today.
    Cheers

    Hi VDUB,
I am a newbie, with a few posts, I am going of topic here, but have an issue with my van and I respect your opinion seeing as you are from the UK and you know your stuff.
Recently went for it and had the DPF delete and tune done ( hush, hush say no more). to my Transporter 2.5 tdi 128Kw 2007 model.
Bought it from a fleet yard and did not know it's history, drove ok though.
VW wanted $A4750 to replace dpf and sensors.
To the point, I have had an issue with it almost since having it, it seems to run really jerky and jumpy around 2000rpm but since the delete it is a bit worse, I am thinking maybe injector? No codes to speak of.
I own a vag. com. cable but still learning how to use it, a bit scared to go advanced.
    Any ideas.
    Cheers

That DPF pressure sensor is v common, a few members have had this issue (in golfs mainly).

Valleyboy65 - do you get any error codes when you do a VCDS scan? Post a scan up.

The DPF, and differential pressure switch is still fitted, but after the delete I would have thought was just for show! I still have the dpf and temp sensors fitted, and all plugged in.
I did notice that even the lambda sensor was not working now whether that was part of the delete, i also requested the EGR turned off as well, but am not sure if it was done, or, was a wise move on this model engine! not knowing what the tuners actually done is annoying me and they won't respond to email.
And it cost a fortune, would not recommend them at this stage. $A2400

I don't get any error codes, but,
I must admit nievely I bought the cheaper vag. com. cable and have problems with it already, I will try to post a scan soon when it is fixed. If it gets fixed.

I do have a before and after dyno scan and will PM it if any one is interested. Massive difference.
Actually I am as a newbie not yet allowed to post anything.

thats a strange one mate and it doesnt help that you had a dpf delete done and egr as god knows whats been changed.. it would be a lot easier if it was standard for us to help you.. to be honest im not really up on dpf delete yet but i did find a place on the web that did it in the uk and they removed the dpf for a straight pipe no filtet and sensors gone plus a engine tune. ... if your dpf is still there then is it blocked?? have they just stopped the light coming on dash??

How do you know the lambda sensor isnt working, if you have no error codes?

Diagnostics without a real ross-tech cable are probably not the best starting point either.

    Hi guys,

No the DPF was opened and gutted as far I know, so looks standard, but straight through. Also the van retuned. The only reason I think lambda sensor not working because when scanned it was greyed out and showing all condition are N/A on screen for the sensor. I will try again now my cable working again.
    Cheers
