I think that petrol engines will be enjoying particulate filters soon. Read an article in AutoBild.de about particles that petrol engines emit. To compare, they tested a Citroen C4 diesel dpf vs a range of petrol engines. Citroen emitted only 5 particles per m3 and Golf mk7 1.2tsi did 1.800.000 particles per m3 (was the worst in the test). Mercedes has particulate filter as standard on S500 (petrol V from 2014. So it's just a matter of time or maybe when new euro emissions (in Europe) kick in.
