    Dif between 103 and 125TDIs

Am considering a flash upgrade but would like to know if the 'short' motors are the same?
If the block, crank, rods n pistons are the same I would be much happier.
Are they the same part numbers I wonder? Has anyone had a warranty issue?

The block, crank and rods will be the same. The pistons and injectors will be different.

Also, you are a bit short on info. VAG have been making 103kw and 125kW diesels for a long time now, and they cover many different applications and technological era's - so you need to actually specify which engine you are talking about.

It's a 103TDI in a 2012/13 Yeti which I'm thinking of uprating if it's not compromised in any way.

See thread here on my brothers 2012 Skoda Octavia 103TDI which we had chipped with DNA Tuning. It ran perfectly for around 70,000km of driving (was a company car and has now been sold) and he has absolutely zero mechanical sympathy.

The tune made a significant increase in power and torque - it was a fast little thing.

PS: I believe the 125TDI also has a different head, and larger/different turbo to the 103TDI.

DNA was what I was looking at for an economy improvement also.
    Thanks for that.

The car was actually better on fuel after the tune too. It did ALOT of freeway driving (hence about 70,000km in the space of about 18 months or so) and it would average 4.8-5.2L/100km. This was an Octavia wagon DSG carrying a heap of work stuff in the boot too.

I'm looking into tuning my wife's 103tdi too for fuel efficiency. Otherwise it's a joy to drive even at stock with the torque.

Mines a new Yeti, so am not too sure of risk, if any, involved in a mod which wasn't designed to accept by VW engineers.......that's how conservative I am.

Honestly, it just comes down to risk, and this has always been the case with any engine, any car, any manufacturer, for all of time.

If VW decided it was worth their risk, they would sell the car to you with more power than 103kW. If a tuning company decided it was worth their risk, they would sell you a tune to increase the power more than they do. And if you decide its worth your risk, you would ask a tuner to tune it for more power than the standard stage 1 tune.

As it is, any more generalised questions about the viability of a tune or otherwise are moot - just look around you. There are people making good money selling stage 1 tunes to other people, and not many people are suing the tuners...that should be all the reassurance you need. If not, sell the 103 and buy a 125.
