Is this the first petrol/diesel Golf conversion in Australia?
Are there any problems with using copper for fuel lines?
I think the easiest way to upgrade the fuel lines in my car are to braze a new 1/2" copper pipe in place of the old petrol return fuel line in the plug that holds the sender (in the side of the tank). Run the current large fuel line as the return line for the diesel.
For anyone who doesn't know, the tank sender is welded to the current fuel line, so changing the size of that would be problematic, but if i replace the small return line, everything should be fine.
Using nice big 1\2" copper lines will ensure i get good fuel feed even on cold mornings when my biodiesel is thicker than usual!

Cu is a perfectly OK metal for diesel use. It's been used for years as sealing washers, banjo fittings etc.Originally Posted by smithy010
Your bd shouldn't be any thicker than dinodiesel if it's made properly. If you're using svo then that's a different story and the larger diameter the better the flow.Using nice big 1\2" copper lines will ensure i get good fuel feed even on cold mornings when my biodiesel is thicker than usual!
Syncro, probably the first petrol-diesel conversion in Australian History, but hang it.... i want a diesel, so i'll get a diesel....
The plan is to also hold on to the petrol engine and leave everything so that it can be easily converted back to petrol should i feel the need.
Brackie- you're right with the Biodiesel viscosity thing in the most part, however the international standard for biodiesel does set it at ever so slightly thicker than dino diesel. Who knows, i might even consider a SVO conversion. Regardless of what happens, 1/2" copper can't hurt to get the fuel to the business end well. Cheers for the info!

It just seems so funny as over the years I have seen hundreds of diesel/petrol conversions.Originally Posted by smithy010

Hang on, isn't the diesel box taller than the petrol one?
Wouldn't a taller box be better for the highway- or with such a gutless diesel am i better off keeping revs up at the expense of economy?
What does everyone think?

I think a 5 speed.
5 speed overdrive gearboxes work ok on a Diesel.
