AMA 2.5cc DIESEL ENGINE 1955 CZECH REPUBLIC | eBay
Here is a good one. I had a customer come into work with the idea of changing his petrol Moke into a diesel. Could anyone suggest a great little diesel engine that might be suitable. Just out of general curiosity.
His only rule is it must be light and as "inexpensive" as possible lol
Cheers

5000 rpm? What with LPG and NOS? Pretty big revs for autoignition!

no mate, thats stock from vw. max revs 5500.
the vw indirect injection diesels rev fast quite easily. much nicer than the tdi's which really are tractors.
Ironman, I have a complete 1.5lD sitting on my garage floor, and parts enough to build a few others. let me know if you need something. the 1.5/1.6 D is by far the smallest and lightest vw diesel that you'll find in australia, thats also very simple.

Also try Holden Gemini Isuzu, there's a few diesel engines about, and may be easier to get more as they come from Japan

The biggest problem putting a different engine into a Moke, or early Mini for that matter is the increase in weight.
A standard 1275 Moke/Mini engine complete with gearbox and accessories weighs a fraction over 150kg. Increasing this weight significantly will cause the rubber cone suspension to collapse so a relatively simple engine swap might turn into a project that also involves changing the suspension as well.
There’s a few places in the UK and US making sub-frames for Mini’s that are designed to take different engines that incorporate coil overs, this may be worth investigating. The most common conversion these days is to fit the 2 litre Honda VTEC engine.
Does Honda do a VTEC that runs on diesel these days?
