you want a mk1 golf diesel engine - 1.5l, non turbo, 50bhp @ 5000rpm, 88Nm @ 3000rpm, 5l/100km. only needs a glow plug circuit, +12V ignition and whatever instruments you want (oil pressure, water temp)

Any idea of weight of engine/gearbox combo?

Does Honda do a VTEC that runs on diesel these days?

not as far as im aware.

A mk1 1.5D engine and 4-speed gearbox doesnt weight more than 160kg.
