    Diesel cheaper now?

Driving home tonight, looked at a few petrol stations (the two nearest to home) and they read as follows...

    7/11
    ULP - 128.9
    Diesel - 118.9

    Mobil
    E10 ULP - 125.9
    ULP - 128.9
    Diesel - 116.9

Can it be true? Has Australia finally caught up with European intelligence re-pricing of Diesel vs Petrol!?

Is this because it is bio-diesel which has a lower excise duty?

Yeah, i noticed that this morning on the way to work, had to call in and fill up the Bike, it runs on premium.

    Diesel was 118.9
    ULP was 128.9
    Premium was 138.9

I nearly dropped when i went in as i have never put more than $16 in the bike to neckk it since i bought it last august. and he wanted $21 !!!

lets hope it stays that way.

Well BP yesterday here in Brisbane has Ultimate diesel 1 cent lower than ultimate ULP. I paid $114 for the oily stuff. The super cheap ethonol blend ULP is still down about 106 here, but at last regular ULP is about the same or dearer than diesel. Hazaar!

I think the global demand for diesel is lower hence the price came down...

Syd prices still vary between 1.16 & 1.30. I compromise by going a diff route home to get the 1.17 - 1.19 prices at caltex or bp in the inner west. The cheapest is way out west ...

I thought bio-diesel was not approved for use in TDIs? I read somewhere also, that BP Ultimate diesel as bio as well.

    Anyone confirm?

The owner's manual and fuel filler cap sticker on my partner's MY09 TDI Eos are emphatic..... fuel containing more than 5% bio-diesel must not be used under any circumstances as this will void the warranty.

It is my understanding problems with compatibility of bio-diesel with the new common rail fuel injection system and DPF Filter efficiency are the reason for this stipulation. The new system reportedly uses sequential injection of fuel during the compression stroke to maximise performance and fuel efficiency and there are variations between the relative compressibilities of mineral and bio-diesel which negate the current technology.

Others more learned and experienced than I may be able to enlighten us further as to whether this is correct or a myth to support the oil companies.
