Thumbs up Custom Code tune on my Polo

thought I'd do a quick review of this.

I've had a TDI piggy back tune before, which was a fuel only tune, made good power and the improvements were very apparent in the mid range, where the torque would come on like a freight train, but it still retained the weaker top end of the stock tune. Loved this tune to bits, but decided to go CC as they will support me with further mods down the track.

The CC tune is a different beast. Fuel and boost is mapped in this flash tune and it is exceedingly linear throughout the rev range and very smooth. The surge I used to experience with the old chip is gone, as is the slight surge I used to get with the stock tune. Now pulls cleanly from low RPM and won't stop pull until red line. This continues in every gear!

I'm yet to try the new CC tune out on the highway where the previous tune excelled. You could nail it in 5th at 100km'h and it would provide effortless overtaking. So I will reserve judgement on this part of the tune for later.

Initial impressions are great however and its nice to be back in a tuned TDI again, I just dont know how I went a few months without it.

It could always use more power, but that will have to wait until a larger turbo is installed. Until then however, FMIC and custom intake will be tackled first, along with an EGR delete pipe.

Thought I'd share. Since I think I'm the only Polo on here with Custom Code.

I reccommend it. If your Polo TDI or GTI isn't chip tuned yet, feel free to give me a yell and I'll take you for a blast around the block. Don't overlook CC in your search for a tune. Competitive pricing and a power increase thats very useable and grin inducing.

just say it is for increased economy reasons

two days on and its getting better. I keep getting suprised how smooth the power is, no more surging

yeh man I think with all your supporting mods, it'll work a treat.
Ive got to do my EGR delete, exhaust, FMIC and intake. Then I think it'll be a nice punchy road car. When the turbo gives up the ghost I'll get a bigger turbo

i gotta say having driven about 2000km in the octy (same engine as yours) now, i am surprised just how lumpy the torque curve seems to be.... seems rediculous really. Old VE pump driven diesels are very linear in power delivery and the torque output always seems to make sense with regard to your accelerator position, but on this new thing it just seems weird.

Anyway, maybe i'll argue my case to Megan and see what she says

Maybe GolfMan is comparing vs his previous tuning box rather than stock - I had no surging with stock tune of my Polo TDi.

I find that my Polo TDi's remap (another brand but I won't pollute this thread) makes a REALLY big lump of torque from idle but this allows you to drive the car almost from idle in upper gears, if you are delicate with the right pedal.

And it makes for EXCELLENT fuel economy (should pay for itself on that alone in another 100,000 km).

yeh after driving Jarred's and mine back to back, the old engine was way more linear with its torque delivery. Custom Code tune has smoothed this out under light throttle applications. Much better now!

nope I was talking about my stock map. Under light throttle loadings it wasn't very linear in its delivery, not so much surging as not very smooth.

Just filled the first full tank. Will let you know how economy goes
