Owning a May 09 build Skoda Octavia RS 2.0 TDI (CR170), I've heard that the ECU's have been encrypted which makes it hard to reflash the ECU without sending the ECU away for "modification"
I've come across the Diesel Performance UK site that has a module that plugs in under the bonnet - has anyone heard good or bad things about these - see link - Skoda Diesel Tuning

I thought it was after that that they were encrypted?

Anyway, a 'tuning box' generally just increases the fueling on a diesel. This means more soot (and very bad if you have a DPF!), potentially a fair bit if you get the 'setting' wrong on it. With diesels you have to be careful about fueling, because more fuel = hotter exhaust gas temperatures. This is bad for your car. Very. They run hot enough as it is. You do need to get a proper map installed, even better if you can get it dyno'd at the same time too, that way it'll be a definite match for your car.

Some people use the tuning boxes with varying success, they do not increase the boost so they will not give you the performance increases of a remap and they are also (generally) not as efficient afterwards...

Mine is a June 09 build Superb and encrypted but apparently it is pot luck and yours may work. I bought a Bluefin and it was agreed that if it did not work then I could return it which I did. Try it and see what happens is the best way you may get lucky. I suspect the tuners won't put up with the loss of sales and will have a work around soon.
