They pretty much said that there wouldn't be much immediate performance difference in a new car, but that performance would be maintained.

Higher cetane is meant to reduce diesel clatter. Not sure if one is meant to get more power at all.

Apparently, there is no benefit to engine performance if cetane number is over 55, due to the nature of the diesel combustion process.

The bus is now on its 4th tank of Ultimate Diesel

Haven't noticed any power differences, but I now get up to about 930km before the fuel warning light comes on. Avg consumption on the trip computer reads 5.3L/100km, not bad for a car that VW claims 6.2L from factory (5.5 before switching to ultimate)

Put your foot down though, I could be imagining but I am noticing more soot. Seems to be smoother but that could be psychological as well!

Any news on when Ultimate Diesel arrives in other states? SA?

Also, is there any difference in regular diesels (eg, BP, Caltex, Shell, Mobil,...)?

A lot depends on your location. In many places there is no difference at all, as the one refinery supplies more than one "Brand" in the area. IIRC some are supposed to put some additives into it before it reaches the servo.
