I think that is most peoples perception. I am in the heavy transport industry and we only refuel at very high turnover outlets and have proven the above perception to be dubious at best. I can show you the repair bills for motors going into the hundreds of thousands and which the fuel company involved paid for most of it. The fuel was obtained from multiple outlets which led us to question the belief that high turnover is good. One station sells far more diesel that petrol and our drivers have been threatened with death if they refuel there again and the owner is screaming as he just lost thousands of dollars a month. I don't think anyone knows if it is an advantage to refuel at high turnover stations as there is no way to prove it just gut feeling that it should be so.
