I got 6.5 years out of mine, and 110,xxxkm. Ended up going with a Bosch battery, as dads needed replacing in the Jetta too, so got a discount for buying 2Both had similar KM's on them and the Jetta is almost 1.5yrs older.
I can confirm the TDI, especially with DPF regens is a early death sentence to smaller AGM / Gel batteries. Since ditching the massive stock battery early on I've killed two Deka's, an Optima, and am now on my second Braille. The heat from the DPF cycle cooks them, and I've finally worked out some decent insulation and regular 14.4 volt external top up charges are essential to extend the AGM batteries lifespan. I would have gone back to a mammoth wet battery, but I like the space a small battery gives me.
Friggen expensive exercise!

Apologies for the late reply, I picked up the Varta Blue for $219, the blue series have slightly better specs than the original battery fitted.
The main reason I went for that is that it's hard to find anything decent these days that lasts longer than the warranty period and considering the alternative was a Century or Exide for more or less the same price, the Varta was a no brainer.
Just replaced mine on the Passat after 7 years 2 months., Got a Varta Silver E44 780 cca should be enough.

Just replaced the original Enertec in the 06 TDi with a Varta Blue, so 8 years. It was still just ok at about 40% on the test but occasionally gave the symptoms of a flat battery then started on about the third try.
Just replaced mine 5 years started to slowly discharge over night excide 650 $220 installed Sydney batteries
6.10 yrs life out of my first battery for my 2007 1.9TDI Polo. Could have pushed it for two more months but didn't want to risk it.

Just bringing up my old thread.
Purchased new battery today for Jetta , Century made in Australia.($200) (some places in sydney have same for $175)
Did not buy it because the Jetta battery failed but my ute one did after 9 years (besco australian made)
so the jetta battery has now gone into the ute.
Last three services on the jetta I have been told the battery needs replacing.

5.5 years in my TDI Vrs. Averaged 10,000km a year and lots of short suburban trips so pretty happy with that.
