    Bang and steam -help

Hey was just at the beach and the car was sitting in the sun so it was pretty warm then I jumped in and drove off and 100m down the road there was a bang (or maybe more like a a pop) and a heap of what looked like steam came out from under the car near the front right wheel arch.

It looked like a bit of water was on the ground but not much when I got out to check it out. I couldnt see much thanks to the plastic cover under the motor so I just nursed it a short distance home watching the temperature.

Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking it might be a radiator hose or something, I'll have to have a closer look tomorrow. Cheers.

It could be the intercooler hose. How it was on power when you were driving home?

It seemed to be OK but i didnt put my foot down to test it out. If it was the intercooler how safe would it be to drive?

Green fluid. Took the cover off the bottom and there was a hose hanging down, its supposed to be connected to what looks like the air conditioning compressor. How the hell do I put that back on? I assume this means I have to get the air con regassed as well..

Anyway should be safe to drive with the air con turned off.

Green fluid to me sounds like coolant but the newer dubs use that pink stuff. Did you check your coolant reservoir?

Yep I checked the coolant - the level is fine and like you said its red/pink. Pretty sure its the air compressor the hose was connected to, says Sanden 1K0 820 859 F

Yep, Sanden is the brand of the A/C compressor. Looks like you should get out of it ok then.

Looks like the AC line has blown, and you'll just need it reattached and regassed, will need someone like Pirtek if you don't have VW warranty. Fine to drive, just the Ac won't work - don't run it without the "gas" as it lubes the compressor.

Cars are fine to drive with blown intercooler hoses - had a few unplanned "tests" recently - it's just very underpowered, noisy, and you make a lot of noise yet go nowhere. Remember it's blowing OUT, no way you could get stuff back in on the turbo outlet side. You feel like a tool driving it very far so you just wouldn't. Inlet is a different story....
