    Most powerful diesel?

    Hey guys!
As the owner of an Astra diesel, i've seen and put into place some simple but effective tuning to completely transform the car, (can say exactly what later if anyone wants to know)
But i was wondering what the tunability is like on the vdub oilers...as it's always in the back of my mind as a future car...
So who here has put some work into their diesel (even if it's just a tuning box) and what sort of figures are you getting?
    Cheers guys(and girls)!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and as we all know power isn't everything, what sort of 0-100 and quarter mile times does this lead to?

To get answer faster post it in GolfV section. Also look at the Tiguan section.

^ yep - and be sure to mention out what figures you're getting, even better with a dyno / curve so we can imagine the boost.

Then you'll definitely get some bites from the diesel tuners

    hey astra, welcome!!!

so far i have done basically stuff all- slight intercooler ducting mod, SEAT air trumpet, stock air filter (this wont change), and ChippedUK chip/remap (ChippedUK ST3 self tuning unit- one handset that stores stock map, plus two others).

supposedly the chip is good for around 110kw and 330nm at the fly.

havent dynoed yet, because im lazy.

    performance mods to be done:

-2.5inch mandrel bent downpipe and mufflerectomy (not going to bother with the rest of the exhaust- not worth the extra 800aud or whatever in my opinion
-garrett vnt1749vb, when my little vnt15 poops itself

please list your mods as i am sure we would all be interested!

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT

i edited this heavily as i had just crapped on and on and on but i see you're putting out 150kw and 420nm in your astra, as well as having cleaned your egr, so its obvious that my post would have been superfluous to you.

    just a couple of questions:

-does your car have a DPF, and if so, have you found it a hindrance to performance mods so far, in getting to 150kw?

-precisely WHAT mods have you done? +40kw is a fair step up for 1.9tdi so it must be more than just tuning box/remap. do you know how much gains were had with tuning box/ remap alone? (it would be interesting to see potential gains on 1.9 PD vs. 1.9 CR).

-if you DID get a remap rather than tuning box, which company was it with? (i wont apologise for starting a 'chip war' as i personally like to see peoples' opinions of different companies, and whilst im loyal to my own so far for obvious reasons, i dont feel my penis automatically shrink when someone with my car has better figures than me).

    -what turbo in the astra?

-do you have 0-100 times or even better, self-timed 40-100 times? that would be interesting to know. in second gear @40km/h, if you could, please!

    cheers!

I like the enthusiasm i'll answer one question at a time, i'm actually now putting out 162kw, 480nm. 150kw, 420nm was with the old tuning box. Ran that for just over a year, all it did was change the pressure in the commonrail. I recently aquired a new box in the testing stage (only one outside of europe, one of 20 in total, but it's just gone on sale now.) which adjusts the pressure in the commonrail, and ups the boost.

    1. No, the manual astra diesel has no DPF, thank god for that
    2. Performance mods at 150kw, 420nm (118fwkw) = Simota Carbon induction kit(no real gain, just gets rid of most of the intake restrictions) and DTUK Greenbox.
Performance mods at 162kw, 480nm = Simota and DTUK CRD-T (just a tuning box and air filter gotta love tunability)
    3. No remaps, straight plug and play tuning box, with 4 adjustable maps, and percentage settings for different power delivery
    4. Turbo is a Garrett GT1749MV
    5. 0-100 was 7 flat with the old greenbox. Haven't had a proper run with the new box yet, but got a 6.7, should be easily able to get it down to a 6.5. 40-100 i'll have to do as well...and will let you know the results once i've done it.
Any more questions, feel free to ask

With common rail, and the "bigger" GT sized VW turbo, it's no wonder you are seeing great figures. No DPF is a big thing as well!

Great results for a diesel, no doubt.

    BLOOD - D - HELL

those are some kickarse figures, Astra. really, really awesome.

honestly, if i could have those figures (im modest- say, 150kw and 450nm) and fully sorted suspension + lst clutch etc, i would be a very happy camper.

its nice to see that you've got a capable turbo in your car, too. sure, the VNT15 in the VW 1.9's is tried and true, but if i had been asked to pay the difference in price for a vn17vb (300usd, i think?) and a small (small!) fmic setup at the time i had bought the car, i would have hopped on it in a heartbeat.

i know that this forum (and myself, for that matter) doesnt approve of illegal drag racing/ reckless driving, but might i ask what cars you've spanked? i'd say the list would be pretty impressive, and im sure the looks on those peoples faces would have been priceless, given that a majority of people would presume that yours is the 1.8L NA petrol.

im gonna get a stopwatch this weekend to try to time my times. freeway onramps only, of course, mwahahahahahahaharrrrghhhhhhh!!!!

Lol....pm some cars to me...and i'll tell you whether or not we've met on a private runway and the certain results that may have come about.

Any my car doesn't exactly look stock...but still, it's good to surprise people.
