Had a massive last 3 days putting everything back on the car. Gldgti helped out heaps and on Saturday we had the head back on and engine timed, manifolds back on etc. Then over Sunday and Monday egr deleted, all boost piping back on, driveshaft back in, coolant pipes all hooked up etc. Was very happy with how everything went back together. Last night at around 6pm it was finally time for turn key after priming the fuel system. Lots of cranking with no start and I was poking my head around triple checking everything. Gave it a few more cranks and it fired up back to life! Great success! Let it idle and played with the revs a little to get all the fluids flowing and wear the camshaft in a little. Everything seemed great. Took it for a quick test drive. It's down on power, struggles to get up hills and higher rpm doesn't pick up and accelerate (thinking maybe vac leak with egr delete / vac for turbo actuator) so need to sort that and rear right coil making noise so will suss that out and make sure everything is tight and sitting right. Great success though! Hearing it fire up after being in a million pieces for weeks was awesome!
Now for some pics:
Busted lifter from worn cam
Head after cam and lifters removed cleaned up awaiting the new bits.
New cam in
Just want to say a massive thanks again to gldgti for helping out. Heaps of stuff I wouldn't have known how to do like timing the engine properly and wouldn't have the muscle for such as torquing the new head bolts :p legend! It's also fun to talk 5h1t with someone rather than working alone in the cold lol
