Manual or DSG? The DSG's have been known to be problematic.
Hey all, I'm new here and looking at buying a 2006 VW Golf Turbo Diesel (Comfortline). It's done 183000kms, and just wondering if anyone has advice for me on things to look out for or if there's any known problems with these vehicles.
It's had regular servicing and its country kms.
Thanks!

Manual or DSG? The DSG's have been known to be problematic.
2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille
It's a DSG..
Mechatronics failed quite frequently on the DSG's and there are countless posts about the issues on this forum. I believe there was a recall recently to get them replaced and many that did have problems with them had them replaced under either warranty or good will so I would check to see if there is any history of this. I have a few friends with DSG's and all of them have had issues, if not the mechatronics then the clutches ect ect so although there will be people on here claiming they have no issues from my experience they are problematic - hence why I prefer the good ol manual trans any day.

You've got that all wrong. The recall is for the dq200 found in late model Golf, Jetta and Polo.
The dq250 found in Tdi Golf,Passat, GTI and Golf R are far less problematic and you'll find a lot of people on this forum that haven't had any issues and I'm one of them people.
Just make sure the DSG has been serviced and drives well.
MY20 Golf GTI TCR
MY20.5 LR Defender P400 HSE
Thanks Poyta & Brendan for your advice.
It has been regularly serviced and seems to drive well from the test drive I took it on.
Also the dealer has offered to include a years warranty for me so I would hope it wouldn't be one of the problematic models.
Fingers crossed!
