Sorry guys, I think I have a pretty high tolerance but I'm really going to have to insist on some self moderating in here, or else I will close this and the other 2SO threads. I don't want to, but I DO want y'all to play nice, please.

I mentioned using 2SO to a neighbour who has a Landcruiser single cab with the 4.2 6 cylinder diesel. It's clocked close to 300,000km and this morning he told me he has finally got around to trying it.
His observations are that it's a bit quieter but the main difference is that it's smoother. He's only been adding 200ml with his usual 60L fill up so that's 1:300 instead of 1:200. Hopefully he will up that to 300ml and after a few tanks see some extra improvement as it cleans the system out.
He said he will keep using it so yet another happy convert.

It will be interesting to see if it starts smoking for a bit when he ups the concentration, as the injectors clean up.
But it's interesting to hear that even at the lower concentration, he is till experiencing a noticeable improvement.

He was hard to convince it was worth a go and not the sort to embellish results. It's strange that a smoother engine is an instant result when you would think that would come later, after the crap has been cleared out? It might be the effect on combustion?

Another neighbour has a Peugeot about 2006 with a 2L diesel. He tried it straight away and stopped me to rave about the results soon after. He couldn't believe how quiet it was and swore he will always use it just for that. I'll ask him next time I see him, about fuel consumption. He's retired so that should be a priorty, the other guy never checks.

The difference between these vehicles is the Peugeot engine is a common rail turbo which suggests the big loss of noise is likely to be from the common rail injection system as the 2SO lubricates it. Maybe the old school diesel injectors were also freed up and syncronised to help make it smoother in the Landcruiser?

    Another 2 positive results.

From reading threads on o/s and 4WD sites, the older style diesels also get reduction in the pump noise more than the injectors. Being at much lower pressure than a CR HPFP, maybe these can get quieter with a lower amount of additional lubrication (but without the full benefit of the other effects that most of us have experienced)

I think 1:300 is close enough to 1:200 to get good results, just not the optimum amount for the best results? He was being cautious just in case and I don't blame him.
I was amazed at the results people got from their Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ 2L petrol engines with as little as 1:1000 being enough to shut up some noisy HP DI fuel pumps and 1:600 being the optimum 2SO ratio for petrol engines. A common observation from that was that the engine was smoother as well as being quiet again.

You could be right about the pump being the bigger source of noise on the old school diesels.

    How's this for a result with 2SO?
My lawnmower is an MTD 21" rotary with 5hp Briggs and Stratton side valve, I bought it new in 1991. Original everything apart from one blade change about 1996, single heavy blade. I've looked at the plug maybe 3 times, tapped it down and put it back. The air filter has been cleaned perhaps 6-8 times. 4 oil changes?
It starts first pull 9 times out of 10 but for the last couple of years has been failing to idle properly and cutting out.

I added a good dose of 2SO when I filled it up and used it last time. Today I used it again and the idle is now almost perfect, a touch fast but that's being picky. That mower is like my 16 year old dog, every day it still works is a bonus.
I've got a new self propelled mower with a Kawasaki engine but hate the thing, so use the old girl instead.

    Another use for 2SO.

    Hi All,

I have been reading this thread with interest since the beginning and now it is time to add my $0.02.

This weekend we went to the Margaret River region. Romantic, aren't I

In an earlier post, I mentioned that I used Penrite DPF Cleaner during our Christmas holiday, also to Margaret River. We achieved 6.7L/100km both ways.

On this trip I added 350ml of Castrol Activ 2T and topped up with BP Ultimate. All of the variables were the same. ( aircon, cruise, speed, and ambient temp). On the trip down I averaged 6.3L/100km traveling mostly at 120km/h on cruise. On the return trip I achieved 5.5L/100km in near identical conditions.

Now for the subjective bits. The engine seemed quieter and smoother and more eager to rev higher. Overtaking was easier.

The fuel consumption numbers don't lie. I am not sure whether I will add it at every fill or use it occasionally like a fuel additive, but I am impressed.

    As always caveat emptor.

    Thanks for that informative post.

That's an decrease in fuel consumption of almost 12% overall and almost 18% for the return trip! (that's by dividing the new consumption vs the old - I could inflate those numbers by working the figures the other way) While I am an advocate of using 2 stroke oil as a diesel additive, there must be some other factor at play that helped out on the return trip to produce such a stunning improvement. Was there a tail wind most of the way coming back?

I assume your car has a 70l fuel tank - could you also tell us what sort of car and engine is it and how much mileage has it done? And what was the distance of the trip down to Margaret River?

Even the 6% decrease on the trip down is impressive enough for me to want to run it for a couple more tanks, if only to see if there is an improvement in the "normal" driving fuel consumption. Plus the subjective noted gains in the behaviour of the engine are worthwhile too.

But if you decide not to use it in the next fill, it would be interesting to know if you feel any immediate difference once your car is running straight diesel again.
