    I sprayed the tip of mine with a very light coat of spray enamel (thinners based) it has been on there now for at least a month and there is no sign of it flaking off as of yet (touch wood). Certainly makes it a lot easier to read than the stupid black tip, I don't know what VW were thinking when they designed that one

    Aren't there any alternative aftermarket dipsticks that could be used?
