1997 Mk 3 TDi Injector Pump Leaking Fuel

    Hi All

I noticed yesterday that my Tdi was leaking something from under the car, on closer inspection today it is coming from underneath the injector pump somewhere? To the left of the oil dipstick and behind a round black bracket, standing in front of the car...

Has anyone seen this before and how can I fix it? Any ideas?

Can I check a seal or tubing somewhere? There is not alot of room in there to poke around... bugger

    Thanks

    Hi mate,
There are numerous places on the IP for it to leak, but near the dipstick end it could be coming from the outlet valves, the injector lines or even the little service port (the 12mm head bolt in the middle of all the outlet lines).

Check that the lines aren't leaking from the unions first (the 17mm locknuts). Then make sure the little bolt in the middle is tightened down properly (it should have a copper washer under the head. you can pull the bolt out and check its all ok without doing any harm)

The injectors all have return lines. These are rubber and can degrade over time. It might be one of these leaking, or where they go back to the fuel return line from the IP. Check that too.

If you're really stuck, take a photo and I'll circle all the things you shoud check.

    Thanks for the reply

I moved the car up onto the street on level ground and it stopped leaking? It was previously nose down on the driveway, which is fairly steep. Bit odd but of course I am happy again now. I will check what you have described above to see what has been happening

I hope it does not happen again in a hurry...

It'll probably start 'leaking' again when whatever is under it fills up and overflows.
