And amongst we long suffering 125kw TDI owners, you are the MAN!

just found this thread..my injectors died back in March 2012.
The car is a 2008 Mk5 Golf GT TDI.
Had to get it towed back to the dealer and it was all replaced under VW warranty, did not have to make use of the allianz extended VW warranty.
One thing that annoyed me was the car had been going to the same service dealership from day1 yet I had to wait for the car the die for the injectors to be replaced! Things like these should be released as bulletins and fixed when the car was in for a routine service.
So this has played out interestingly. My car just had the injector failure a few days ago, luckily I was driving late at night and there weren't any cars around, because it failed on me in the middle of an intersection. Contacted my dealer + VW and the response was that because I have a tune on the vehicle they will not cover the car under goodwill even though I gave them plenty of evidence that this is an inherent fault in the design of the injectors. To do the 4 injectors + wiring loom through my dealer would be $3400ish out of pocket. All things considering I think I will just go aftermarket or at the very least get the revised injectors from alternative sources...
I am finding the attitude from VW rather appalling, and the response to the fact that UK has issued a recall on these injectors was that it does not affect VW Australia. Right now I am considering lodging a complaint with the ACCC, really do not care about getting the goodwill claim anymore, this is some serious lack concern for the customer and road safety on the part of VW.
I am looking to force VW into issuing a recall. There is a provision under the Australian Consumer Law that all goods sold must be fit for purpose regardless of what the warranty terms are, and I doubt a car prone to shutdown without warning is fit for driving on the road. There are probably other provisions and complaints to other road or transport authorities that are available regarding the safety element, I will look into it but I am hoping to gain some support here from the many others who have had the same issue. If it helps, I am about two weeks away from graduating from a law degree so I will make certain that this is escalated.
edit: there appears to be a facebook page on the injector issue here - is this started by Greg by any chance?

How do they know you have a tune?
If they asked, I hope you didn't tell them.
Why not just take it to another dealer?
There is no point denying because if you plug in VCDS my ECU number reads CUSTOM CODE. I could have flashed back to stock but then more DTCs will be generated and it will be obvious, and I didn't want to clear the codes.
They gave me VWs number as it is VW who is refusing the goodwill. I called VW, their attitude is they don't want to deal with it. I thought they would be more sensible, since they clearly know how widespread the injector issue is.

Sounds like it's lucky you're about to be a lawyer...
