Congtrats!
There is no OEM tint such thing, the dealer just call their preferred tint guy to tint car.
I got my R36 front two windows tinted by Robert(Hunters Hill Window Tinting) for $100, $500 for a whole car is an overkill.
Hi all,
I'm back! Just pulled the trigger on a Passat B7 130TDI LTD.
I've been offered window tinting from the VW dealer for an extra $500.
Is it worth it getting OEM tinting for $500 or should I get aftermarket tinting from mobs like Tintacar or Tintprofessor.
What has everyone else done?
thanks all

Privacy glass isn't the same as tint.
Also, don't get your tint done at the dealership. Its a massive rip-off.

Absolutely do not let the dealer do your tinting. It has nothing to do with Volkswagen OEM, the quality is absolutely not higher, they contract things like tinting and paint protection and other add ons to local businesses (You will often see new car dealer paint protection does nothing and needs to be cut and polished to correct blemishes by a detailer) at lower rates than you would pay privately and then add dealer mark up. These are text book dealer 101 rip offs. Local businesses do as good or a better job, will often offer lifetime warranty, and will be half the price. You could even ask your dealer who they use for tinting then just go there directly if you want.
The exception to this is you can sometimes option privacy glass when purchasing a new vehicle which is literally tinted glass but that is definitely not the case here.
Privacy glass doesn't filter UV100% so you still have to get a clear film underneath.

One dealer quoted my mother $540 to tint the two front windows to match the privacy glass.
The same tinting business did it less than an hour after she took delivery for $150.
Also, as per above with the paint protection. Most dealers use X-Pack, and claim that it offers lifetime protection. It's a complete waste of money, and an inferior product. Far better off seeking out your own detailer for this sort of thing, and there's plenty of decent ones around, who'll use far better products.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I had my suspicions...
I'll probably use Tintacar.

You can always negotiate with the dealer. I effectively got them to do the front two windows for $120. The actual charge was $180, so they adjusted the car price to suit.

Dealers rip u off.. they simply get a contractor (aftermarket tint). You can get your car tinted for about $300 direct.
If the dealer says tinting check if he means tint applied to the glass or factory tint - NO FILM on the glass..
