    Who has an R36?

Sorry, Im not trying to be a d*ck but this is an R36 thread - we don't have "painted" grilles.

It's hard to match and maintain the brushed aluminium look of the R36 grille, as Philip himself says in an extract of an email to me:

"Additionally, the unfinished aluminium surface tends to dull with time unless it's kept well polished or sprayed with clear lacquer."

Hence my interest in the other approaches taken by R36 owners on here.

An update to this ... Philip is looking into a custom option for me - creating aluminium plugs (as opposed to the black plugs seen in Chris/Shakespeare's post #7.

    Will keep you updated.

Excellent work! Here's slightly better image of the front with the black scrivets, I've emailed this to Philip also requesting aluminium coloured scrivets

Nice! The black on black is a great colour scheme.

Wish Vic plates weren't so expensive!

Hi R36er, I have just purchased an R36 and also wish it was louder. Did you find a solution without the rasp and drone up top?

Fantastic, i wanted to know how it would look with the slimline WA plates and similar letter combinations and same colour as mine. Sucks RR 36 WA was taken and VW 36 WA. Did you also go for slimline for the rear plate? I haven't seen many other black 36s in Perth i see a few blue ones and wagons though!

Hi Recrut, yes i have found a solution. Yesterday I had my supersprint cat back installed (sport / racing centre muffler) and all I can say is wow. It's exactly what I wanted - not too loud - no drone. It really brings out the richness of the R36 note - and has a really nice low burble that extends up to about 3000rpm. Post 3000rpm it begins to become a bit throatier and really roars. The funny thing is though - at idle it is very hard to tell the difference between supersprint and stock. Overall I am really pleased and would recommend to others. Yes it is more expensive - but if you are looking for a great tone from the exhaust I think it’s a great option. In my opinion, the R36 from stock should have sounded like this. I may have to start a little thread and put some photos in.

Did you notice any discoloration on the grill under where the old number plate bracket used to?

I have normal size rear plates I'll post a pic when I get the chance, I thought the slimline for the rear looked small for the plate recess.
