Last night I did wheel rotation in order to get more life out of current tyres, also took the chance to use Einszett 1Z ColourTec Wheel Cleaner to completely clean the wheels. I have to say the 1Z works a treat, it got rid of all the old stubborn dust, my wheels look like new now.
The rotation went well but, after I put the last wheel back on, I forgot to remove the wheel lock key off the bolt before I drove off to Coles Express to get tyre inflated. After getting home, I wanted to re-tight all the wheel bolts and realized I could not find the wheel lock key....I searched the whole garage a couple of times, no luck...I knew I f**ked up...big time...
Quick forum search told me that VW has the master key to unlock, after that you will need to buy a new set of locking bolts and key or normal standard bolts. Still too much hassle.
This morning, when it turns bright, I decided to walk up the street to try my luck, hoping to find it. Thanks to the quite area I am living, I found the wheel lock key 200m away from my home, lying in the middle of the road. When I picked it up, big smile on my face.
Wheel locking bolts are good, but when sh*t happens, they will give you a big headache. I am thinking about replacing they with standard bolts. Take care of your wheel lock key. When tyre/wheel place uses your key, make sure you get it back!
