    Wheel alignment B7 Passat with ACC and Lane Assist

    Does the B7 Passat with ACC and Lane assist need to
    Go to special Tire place for wheel alignment?
    Or can a regular place
    Like Beaurepaires do it??
    Pls advise thanks.

    cru, I expect you wouldn't get many replies as the number of us that have had our Active cruise equiped Passats up on a hoist for an alignment would be very very limited. In saying that I can't see why it would need a specialised procedure, but that is just me. Hopefully booba can give some answers.

    Thanks guys. I got worried when me wife
    drove the tyre through an island to avoid a truck.
    So I thought I'll get a wheel alignment balance and rotate.
    But the ACC and lane assist came to mind.
    I still went ahead with it but for ease of mind
    I wanted to know if there's a special procedure.

    Also with Conti tire on my car may only last me less that 30k.

    my 2 cents . . . (definitely, not an expert even in a dark room with the lights off!)

    The active cruise control has the radar box behind the front badge on the grille and is only interested in measuring the distance to the vehicle in front (relatively narrow angle radar cone pointing straight ahead, won't work well when driving around tight corners/bends!) - the car's electronics take care of determining closing speed, giving you any warning/s, input to acceleration/braking etc.

    The lane assist is done via the camera above the rear vision mirror, and again, the electronics will try and spot the lane markers (i.e. the little lane symbol turns green on the dash when it successfully picks up the lane markers), it then determines if you are moving out of the lane and give the steering wheel a little tug to let you know.

    These two should not have any bearing on the wheel alignment as that is not controlled/regulated by the ACC and lane assist. Admittedly the ACC will put the brakes on as required and the lane assist will tug the steering wheel but that should have nothing to do with the physical alignment of the wheels (which is purely mechanical for castor, camber and toe-in/out - the alignment guy/gal typically use a couple of big spanners/wrenches to adjust the angles/positions to get an optimum set-up then lock the twin nuts on the screw thread shaft/s that adjust for these parameters to 'save' the setting they have dialed in - ask to watch the next time you get a wheel alignment done, it is quite interesting!).

    Also, if the ACC, lane assist and any other VW Passat options/goodies were impacted by wheel alignment, you would have a suitable warning notice in the manual (mine is not handy but cannot recall anything on this front from memory) not to mention the once-over they give you when you pick the car up on delivery.

    Sorry, couldn't find anything. I agree with wind, there should be a warning in the manual if there is a special procedure.

    Whilst the calibration board is required to be a certain distance from the vehicle and is very precise, I don't think alignment will impact the calibration.

    I have ACC & Lane Assist & also got a wheel alignment done via VW Sth Yarra. They outsourced to their local tyre dealer & cost $66 so assume that it is your stock standard for all wheel drive.

    The actual answer depends..
    I have a ACC, Acc, Lane Assist R36 and went through this with my dealer last year.
    There is a margin for error and self correction for the lane assist when getting a wheel alignment.
    If your within the margin for error the unit will adapt and nothing further is required.
    If your outside the limit for adapting the lane assist unit will have to be recalibrated and only some dealers are equiped and trained to do it.
