Whats your opinion on the B8 Passat R

I will be buying a new car in 12-18 months and would like you opinion on the future realise of the Passat R. Does anyone know the engine makeup, specifications? the Pictures I have seen look Ok but still no clone of the R36.

If its not hot enough ill settle for the Golf R but with three kids its going to be tight....well for them anyway

I ordered one a few months ago. There's nothing official yet, just speculation. It might not ever be made.

It is probably reasonable to say if it is produced it will have a bigger engine than the Golf R 2.0ltr. Comments have been made here & elsewhere about engine size & I agree it could be the Audi 2.5ltr 5 cylinder or even a petrol V6. If it is a petrol V6 I expect a version of the Audi 3.0ltr TFSI. Either way I reckon a B8 Passat R will be coming.

I have zero information to back this up, but I doubt it will be another big V6, the tightened up emissions laws in Europe pretty much rule that out... My guess is going down the Diesel route, a la SQ5 a 3.0L TDI... it's still a big donk, but way more fuel efficient.

Yep, looks like it could be a reasonably tasty unit.... However, being a Golf it would be a step back equipment wise...

I would love to see what they come up with. The stock B7 is a bit bizarre looking exterior, amazing interior. I think with the proper R styling it could look very aggressive. See the R400 fan concept.

How does one order something that does not exist?

I gave them $1000 and they took my list of criteria:

    1) Petrol engine, at least five cylinders and at least "2.5" litres capacity.
    2) 5th generation or better Haldex AWD system.
    3) DSG box with manual mode (I'm not fussy re: number of gears(.
    4) Available in wagon form.
    5) Announced for Australia in 2015 or 2016.
    6) Under $100000.

The deposit is refundable if they can't deliver

I think of it more of a $1000 "expression of interest" as in, "please make this!" If they do make it, I'll be very happy

So based on the above they can hold on to your $1000 for 2 years and then say sorry we don't have that car and then give you your $1000 back. Can I have your $1000 for 2 years and then I promise I'll give you your $1000 back!!
