    Why does a car need 10 gears? Isn't it just asking for trouble. Not sure if I'd want to be the guinea pig for a new 10 speed DSG either.

    Agreed, 10 forward gears is pushing it but I'd expect you would see at least a 5yr guarantee/warranty on any such gearbox.

    That ZF 8 speed is supposed to be a pretty sweet 'box from all reports.
    Its all about fuel efficiency, and meeting tighter Euro emissions standards. Euro 6 standards came into effect in Sep.

    Yeah, works a treat for fuel efficiency even for my 2.3tonne monster.
    Yeah the euro emissions laws are going to have a big impact on all car makers
