What is wrong with Armourall?

I've ready in another post someone saying offhand that they've not been near their car with Armourall, to the effect that they feel that damage to the car would result.

I've just had my Passat cleaned and as I got into it afterwards the smell of Armourall (or their commercial eq.) bought back the thought . should I be now going over my car to get it all off again?

The problem with armourall is that it's Distillate (diesel, basically) based. So it cleans well, shines everything up etc.. But it draws the moisture out of the trim. That makes it crack, fade, crumble etc etc.

There are a heap of better products than that out there, and they're usually cheaper too. CRC "So Easy" interior/exterior protectant and cleaner is a good one. I use that a lot. Does plastics, vinyl- The lot. And keeps it looking sharp for months.

Trust me, Einszett Cockpit Premuim is all you'll ever need.

Less is definitely more with this product, as one coat lasts a looong time. No greasy, slimy residue left behind, either.

If you've just read this post and are wondering what to do with the bottles of armour all you have in hte shed which you now won't use on your interior. I saw a doco years ago on Lindsay Fox's car collection. It had his curator talking about maintenance and he said he used to spray the front of the cars in armour all if they were ever going on a country trip where you'd expect to cop some bugs. I've done it a number of times myself when going on long trips (excluding headlights of course) and it's always worked a treat. Bugs just fall off with the hose and the armour all just washes away.
