What Version is your AU Navigation DVD?

I just picked up a Passat Wagaon with SatNav fitted by the dealer. Looking at the toc file in the root of the DVD I can see the Navigation DVD was based upon Q1 2008 Sensis information. Can people let me know if this is the latest Volkswagen has got or whether i should pushing my dealer to give a more up-to-date version?

Are people getting Version 3 or 4 DVD's?

My DVD is called Volkswagen Navigation CY (V2)
    CD Label 6613
    Date Feb.10.2008

In 3 or 5 years time how do i get updated information? Do i download updates from Sensis and merge or do i have to buy a new DVD from the Dealer @ $1050 a pop?

It's one of the main questions holding me back from getting an RNS510 to be honest. I have been trying to research it and it seems the maps are supplied by Navteq. I seem to recall some people getting the Euro maps from a BMW update disc and managing to upgrade their RNS510's, but it seemed a bit hit and miss (http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums...ead.php?t=7857).

There is also a tool called "POI inspect0r" that you can use to mash up your own update disc with your own point's of interest (POI) which might evolve to being able to update the maps yourself too? (http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10041)

As nice an all-in-one integrated unit as the RNS510 is, the question marks over it's future-proofness is really a deterrent.

I have been playing with POI Inspector but it will only add or modify POI info.

In terms of changes in roads or topigraphical information it doesn't seem capable of modifying the mapping data.

Okay I spoke to VW about this when I order the Car. The new update CD was meant to be coming out this year I believe (I have the same one as you). the new maps are around 300 bucks for the dvd I believe. I was told I could come in and have a coffee for 1 hour whilst they updated my maps when it gets released (saves having a stupid disk i dont need). To upgrade the maps you need the dvd and it takes around 1 hour to upload onto the RNS-510 harddisk.

I wish i had discussed this with my dealer prior.
Do u know when the updated disk comes out? Is V3 available now?

If you ever want to update the Points of Interests with speed camera's or red light cameras u will need the dvd so u can extract the iso onto your pc and add them in.

If they dont give u the dvd u will never be able to do this.

The maps come with a single-user license, so I'd be stunned if a VW dealer will upgrade you for free from someone else's maps.

I have not been back to see the guy yet to get the upgrade as I have foudn it has all the roads i need on it even in newish developments. Better than the mio gps i had with 08 maps on it. Not sure if the v3 maps are out yet.

out of general interest how does itr know your not installing the maps on more than one rns-510 as its a dvd-rom (ie. cant write something to the disk to let it know its been used once).
