    Wait an extra few days?

    Soooooo..... after a 4+ month wait the car is finally here.... but not quite ready yet! Due to "end-of-month", I've been advised by the dealer that the nominated tinter is flat out and probably can't do our car until after Melbourne Cup Day. This now raises the conundrum: Should I
    A. Take delivery now and bring the car back next week for tint (will be provided with a loan car I'm assured)
    B. Leave it with the dealer and have the car delivered complete & correct next week.

    The main issue that swings me toward A. is the potential for our car to end up on display over the next few days.
    Option B... well, would always prefer to have it right the first time round, esp with the hotter weather coming up

    Your valued opinions would be greatly appreciated team

    I'd go with option A.

    At least then you have the use of your new car and you can enjoy it and might even be able to notice the difference the tint makes since you have a before and after.

    As you said, your car could become a display car and you never know what happens to it when its up there (broken bits, storm damage, dealer detailing making scratches in paint etc)

    The sooner you can get behind the wheel the sooner you can start grinning like a stupid fool!! Enjoy it mate over the longer weekend (take monday off)!!

    I don't think bringing back the car next week will effect the quality of the tint job done. Should have a lifetime warranty on the work anyways.

    Cheers gentlemen! Yes, I think picking the car up asap is the way to go... for me & the car

    Working through the long weekend unfortunately... at least the car will get me back home quicker on Tuesday

    Now, slightly off topic from my first post, but was wondering what everyone does for "breaking in". Realise there's probably a few threads already on it, but for what it's worth this is some simple things I've been advised:
    1. Strict discipline over the first 2000km
    2. Keep it below 3000rpm
    3. Vary the speed up & down & avoid freeway runs (squiggly roads more fun anyway )
    4. No sport mode / manual shifts /launch control runs to keep to no. 2 & allow DSG to run in
    5. Early oil change ?at 5000km mark

    I think advisory no. 1 is going to be somewhat difficult!
    PS: Rocket - unfortunately I don't have access to a racetrack

    I have read that you are meant to thrash the car over the first couple of hundred km's as it makes everything wear in nicer and allows the pistons to form a nice bond with the cylinders.
    I believe the expression was to drive it like you stole it.

    Might want to check up on the FAQ section though.


    I would also say to pick it up and take the car back for tinting, that way if you discover any nasty surprises, you can get them to fix it up while you are there, saving yourself another trip and getting more time with your car.

    I went on the Opel/VW Cruise back in June 2 days after I got the car up through Marysville and Kinglake. Used Drive, Sports and Manual mode and did all sorts of driving - but only floored it once or twice and tried to keep revs below 5K.

    Didnt use Launch control until I had about 2500km on the clock though.

    You hear so many different opinions out there, who knows whats exactly right and not right.

    I was wondering which dealership you are picking up your car from?

    I too have a car that has arrived but is scheduled for pick up the Friday after Melbourne Cup.

    Might drop into the dealer to make sure they are not using it as display...

    Pfffft!!! Who told you that rubbish? Varying revs across the whole rev range is what's needed to properly run-in an engine. Best done on a track or private roads obviously. Then change the oil after 1000 - 1500 km... Yeah yeah I know you don't HAVE to but it's better for the engine not to run the oil that was used during run in for very long. I put fresh oil in at 1500km and at 5000km. And will do it every 5000km.

    There are different methods depending on the engine. Eg Race or road.

    I have always drove them hard and loaded them up, however not using hard revs for sustained periods.

    You cant hurt modern engines unless you are stupid about it. Then it becomes abuse.

    Dont be a grandpa with them and don't keep them at the same rev for periods of time, vary your revs constantly.

    Use plenty of fresh oil too.
