Thread: Wagon lowering experiences?

  1. #11

I thought we were talking about lowering the car......not raising it.
I went from factory sports suspension (15mm lower) and 18's but when I put 19's on it looked like a 4WD. The H&R's lowered the car another 25mm, sure you have to be careful where you drive, driveways and gutters etc. The handling is fantastic, pity about the seats in the V6.....Anyone want to offload their R36 interior?

It looks the same as a standard V6 with the optional VW sports suspension and 18" wheels (mine lowered 10mm v 15mm). The springs have been uprated by about 30%-40% and it handles noticeably better than the VW sports option, which I tested prior to getting the springs custom made. However, on smooth roads at the limit, it probably doesn't handle as well as a regular R36. Note that it was a necessary evil (I usually lower my cars) because it couldn't even get up my driveway and I didn't want to park on the street (I even tried to modify the driveway but even that didn't work)!

The driveway is a bit steep like many driveways in Brisbane - but the R36 also scraped the front bumper at many other places around town in the first few weeks before getting the new springs.

i have the opposite experience, coming from the sti liberty, the r36 feels like its on stilts...the lib would scrape everywhere, thankfully the front lip was flexible, but it made the worst noise will be getting h&r springs when the exhaust goes on....my only problem then will be the high bluestone kerbs i get in my area....

I still have an as new front pair of King springs with the standard R36 spring rates which I found too soft at this height and uprated. Make me an offer if you are interested.

Yep, same problem when I had my Bora. No matter what angle I tried, front, back, whatever it scraped. In the end I built a ramp from Marine Ply to make it flexible and it just "scraped' in (sorry, bad, really bad...).
The R36 only just manages to get in now by millimeters.
I'd be curious as to how it looks raised?

Yes - their factory is on the Gold Coast which was much more convenient to develop and test the custom solution than others brands with locations in southern states. I was originally seeking Eibach or another European brand, but I couldn't find any that lowered the standard V6 height by only 10mm-15mm.

Are the H&R springs lower than the standard R36 ones? If so, by how much? I've just put some 19" wheels on and the Tyres are 255 35 19 which have raised the car around 5-10mm. I want to get it back to original height- or there abouts..... Roughly how much were the springs?
    Thanks in advance!

Brownie, check out the ride height on my car from the pics on www.photobucket.com/rf4motion.

I had the standard sports suspension (15mm lower than standard), youre right, the car raised back to a standard level, the H&R's have lowered it at least another 30-40mm.
