    Ugrading Bluetooth Module to 9w7

    Hi Guys,

Great Forum, I have always been a part a relevant forum's no matter what car I have.

I have a query regarding 'upgrading' the bluetooth module in my car (2010 Passat TDI, Highline Wagon)

I like many others, cannot get the track ID on my RCD-510, when listening to BT-Audio. Nor can i use my steering wheel controls to skip tracks.

i used to fill up a 32Gb SD car for music, but my phone just seem to be more 'up-to-date' than the SD card. Rather than handling my phone, I would prefer to use the car's integrated controls...

So...I am thinking of ugrading my bluetooth module to the 9w7. However, from reading on the internet, I think I currently have the dealer fitted bluetooth module (dunno exactly which module they have installed). Reason for my assumption is, there is nothing installed under my passenger seat, which is supposed to be the factory fitted location 9correct me if I am wrong).

OK, hope that is enough information.

    My queries are;
    1. Can I have a 9w7 installed under my seat without the cabling there? Or will I have to install it in another location?
    2. Can I even upgrade at all?
    3. Has anybody else had the same issue?
    4. Has anybody else done the upgrade?

    All responses appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Zoobz

    1. Yes, you just need the cable as well. You buy it as a kit normally. Check forum sponsor JKU.com.au or carsystems.pl
    2. Yes, you can remove the dealer fitted BT module. It will be either behind the climatronics control or stuffed between the headunit cage and glovebox.
    3. Yes. I had a Fiberdyne/Mobridge unit dealer fitted. Quite good but no A2DP support (track/artist info and skipping from wheel controls).
    4. Yes, I replaced above unit with 9w7. Happy days.

No, very straight forward. Pull out the head unit which has 4 screws holding it in (the plastic facia around the head unit just pops off.
Then install the harness that comes with the BT unit, run the cable under the carpet to passenger seat, or alternatively just put the BT unit behind the climatronics control for an even easier install.

It will install itself automatically into the car.

I have my line level convertor behind the head unit. It takes up a bit of room. I have a quote from JKU...seems excessive. However the quote includes re-coding. I dont know what that involves.

    Does the 9w7 required recoding?

    Cheers.

Re: Ugrading Bluetooth Module to 9w7

In MOST cases should not require coding as you can adjust settings via the mfd. There could be a situation where some crazy coding is setup out of the box but in that case just get a local member with vcds to assist.
