Tyre replacement

Hi all, I've tried a search and haven't found a recent thread on replacement tyres.
What do you guy recommend to put on my 2012 V6 Highline wagon? I drive fairly spirited but place a fair bit on road noise.
Anyone have a recommended supplier in Melbourne?

From what I have read, I would personally be putting on Michelin Pilot Sport 3's depending on your tyre size. I have the Potenza S01 or S02 (can't remember as they came on the car when I bought it) but they are fine for grip, it's just that road noise is not the best. I have heard that the Michelins are pretty quiet and are a good tyre.

I will assume you're after 235/40 R18 95W XL.

As always, there are limits on how much road and rolling noise a tyre with dimensions of 235/40 R18 will be able to mitigate, such is the nature of low-profile tyres (and the price one pays for large diameter wheels and roadholding of wide tyres). With that disclaimer out of the way...

The Goodyear EfficientGrip would be one the more quieter tyres in their range, though I wouldn't expect them to provide the sort of roadholding like the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 does. Having said that, I've heard the F1A2 aren't too noisy as far as performance tyres go.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 3 also gets favourable comments here. Again, like the Goodyear F1A2, not too noisy as far as performance tyres go.

I imagine the Pirelli Cinturato P1 would be in the same performance category as the Goodyear EfficientGrip, but there isn't much feedback on this forum for either tyre.

The Yokohama Advan db decibel (V551) looks ideal, but in 235/40 R18, it has a load rating of 615 kg, which corresponds to a load index of 91.

I prefer Continental CSC5P or even the 3 series if still available?

I've got Contis on 2 cars and would get them again when new tyres are needed. Wet weather grip is almost as good as if on a dry road.

The road noise is low and wear is good too if you don't launch from every traffic light. I drive hard after 30kph and the wear isn't as rapid as other tyres I've used.

Personally, I wouldn't get high performance tyres (>$400 each) for a normal street car, there is no point, they aren't used to their maximum potential.

Drove a BMW335 coupe recently with Advan db. Very quite and comfortable but lacks ultimate handling, grip and braking. I would describe it as a luxury tyre.

+1 for the ContiSportContact5. They are original equipment on our 125TDI, are slightly more noisy than the db but have noticeably better grip, handling and braking. I would call them a prestige performance tyre.

Bridgestone S001 are very similar to the CSC5 but a tad noisier and the RE002 are a bargain performance tyre that can be noisy on coarse chip roads.
