    Tyre recommendation for Passat?

I have the original Continental Sportcontact 2 235/45 R17 97W & thinking of replacing them on our 3+ year old Passat. They have 37k on them & they started to sound a bit. I prefer a quieter ride rather than just performance.

Any suggestions &/or tyre dealer recommendations much appreciated. We live in the North Shore, Sydney.

    TIA

Have a look on carbonblack.com.au for your tyre size and see what is available in Aus and how they compare to each other.
Then you can contact a local tyre place or motorsport provider to source them.

You could always look at importing tyres from tirerack.com if you want higher spec'd tyres.

Tempetyres also do tyres that should fit your passat.

You will be very surprised by this suggestion but do some research on the Hankook V12 Ventus tyres. They are a new silica tyre and I put them on my BMW 5 series before I sold it and was blown away. They are half the price of the Conti's and Michelen PS2's and were just as good and significantly quieter. The Conti 2's on the rear of my Boxster only have a few thou left in them and I'll be going the V12's on that. That's how impressed I am with them. And Audi have homologated them as OEM now.....enough said.

    Check them out.

    Re: Tyre recommendation for Passat?

I just put Michelin Preceda PP2 on mine. Bought from Costco, about $250 cheaper than other places. Very quiet and much better than the Contis - my wife commented that the car was quieter the first time she drove it with the new rubber.

Good luck, whatever you choose. I'd also recommend a 4-wheel alignment and on car balance as well.

Thanks all for your inputs. After making some enquiries, I have narrowed the choices down to Michelin PS3. They are going for $245 each balanced & fitted at Jax.

Have just fitted a set also from Bob Jane, fantastic smooth tyre, and finally no more "RRR RRRR RRR" from those crap Pirellis! Now it feels like a quality euro car!

Yeah I've put the PS3s on my other FWD car and the grip is much better than the eagle F1s I had.

Only thing is they look crap

Bought PS3's for mine after I bought it, much nicer than the 'old' Pirelli's that were on there (Pirelli's were good but double the price!)
    I paid 269 from bob jane @ December 2010
