Paddle shift on R36
According to the dealer I ordered my R36 through, the R36 has the steering wheel mounted paddle shift for DSG, the same as my current A3 and the golf GTI.
But looking at all of the official press photos that are available on the web, none of them seem to show any paddles. Can anyone confirm whether or not the R36 has paddle shift on the steering wheel?

It definitely does but I can't seem to find any photos on it either....

Here is an old pic from Essen in 2006..

Left paddle is for downshifts, right paddle is for upshifts

they look exactly the same as the ones in my A3, and work the same from your desription.

So to engage either a downshift or upshift, do you pull or push the pedals? The ones BMW have are push I believe which seems counter intuitive.
