    Picked up my new R36...lovely....

Well after months of wait and that last weekend just passed was possibly the longest weekend ever, just sitting there waiting for the time to tick over so that I can pick up new car.

Picked it up with 25km on the clock at 4:00pm today and mostly all good. I found a small nick on the replaceable colour-coded strip on bottom of the left front door. This will be replaced free.

I thought the black plastic trim around the right parking lights looked dodgy at best... but I couldn't complain any more, I just wanted to drive home in it.

Lovely drive, thought I heard a little a rattle from left door trim somewhere. Got home and checked the boot. Found that some tools in the toolkit haven't been fitted properly and that I couldn't actually find a proper home for this metal thingy... And the FM sounded a little crackly at times. Weird since I haven't tinted and would use carbon anyway.

Now I just have to baby it for another 1500km before start having a little fun.

CAnt' wait till tomorrow when I program different seat and mirror positions for our separate keys. ( my wife and I) Then start filling the HDD full of music ready for a short cruise!!

The 3 month wait is over!!! Next up is tinting, and Kufatec BT module.

    Very nice.... congratulations

Don't baby it, though... but don't drive it like it's stolen, either.

I'm going for a drive in mine now

Enjoy! HDD is a pain though, too slow to load. Use SD cards.... (although if you've got the RNS510 ssat nav you'll need to upgrade firmware to use more than 2gb cards...)

Hey thanks guys! I've been driving it relatively normally. Brisk acceleration every now and then. Never revving past 4K. Although once I couldn't help myself when playing with the flappy-paddles and I accidently got to 6K. I did read in the manual last night in the driving section not to rev past 4K during the break-in period which is the first 1500km.

This will be the longest 1500km ever!!

I was trying to figure out the RNS510, it's such a pain that you can't copy music from an external Hdd via MDI to the built in Hdd. The option just doesn't seem to be there. The up side is that it does detect the external Hdd pretty quickly and list the songs in a flash.

Just traveled 123 km and used almost 1/3 tank. Looks like I'm only gonna get around 400km on my first tank. This better improve cos I haven't even done any spirited driving yet.

BTW, Swallowtail, how much of a difference did the Dynamat make to the noise and vibration when you are crusing through B roads around 40 - 60 Kmph? And how did it affect the music?

I've had mine 19 months and didn't hesitate to take it above 4000 and occasionally to the red within the first 1500km.... there's been absolutely no dramas so far, and unlike the GTI it doesn't even drink any oil! I didn't drive it stupidly, but wasn't afraid of making some noise.

Honestly, don't be afraid to take it above 4000 and so long as it's not constantly hanging around the red line, it'll be fine. Drive it as you would on a normal basis - use the paddles, down shift, run third gear out whilst merging on the freeway, whatever!

I know the manual contradicts me here, but part (OK, most) of me thinks that's just the German covering-of-arse to keep the share holders happy.

I rarely get as much as 400km to a tank... only when there's much highway driving

Mine used about 1/2 l of oil in the first 10000 kms.

Give it some stick... just not all the time.

The dynamat tightened up audio definition, and made the car slightly quieter, but not hugely so. As part of a good sound system upgrade it's worth it.

Couldn't agree more about the Dynamat. It makes quite a difference even to the stock speaker system.

Congrats Harleyqn on the new arrival!!
Will have to keep an eye out for you in Richmond.
PITA to load HDD, but when it's done it's so good!
Fuel consumption seems to be varied amongst the R36 owners and i'll post on the fuel consumption thread about a lil trial i did. Very un-scientific, but some might find it interesting.

Enjoy the ride mate, i still am, 14 months on!!

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

Thanks Jayse, one of these days we should organise for a beer or coffee together. I know a few others in Melb with the R36.
