Time to Sell R36 Wagon - Perth, WA - what price?

Unfortunately due to relocating family back to the UK the time has come to part company with the beloved R36 Wagon. Very low milage, Purchased new in Dec 2008. Biscay Blue and only done 26,000 km.

What do you guys think would be a reasonable asking price for a sale within the next 2 months.

Any interested parties drop me a pm.

    Thanks,

    Ben

I'd be interested to know as well
I have a 2010 Sedan and have been sorely tempted by a 2011 S5 Sportback at a good price

    Hi Ben,

After being heavily in the market for an R36 wagon over the last 5 months (and securing one finally) I think I have a good idea of what the market is like.
Being a 2008, that leaves you a little on the back foot being a 'pre-update' model (i'm assuming?), but it's compensated by the very low km's.
    Some questions for you:

    - Is it still under warranty or extended warranty
    - What options do you have fitted to the car
    - What is the service history

    Redbook states:

    Private Price Guide $40,200 - $44,100
    * Trade In Price Guide $34,000 - $37,900
    * Average Km 45,000 - 75,000
    * Price When New $66,990* Price Guide

I have seen cars traded as low as high 30's wholesale, and private sales from $45k-$65k.
To be perfectly honest (please don't take offense) but i'd put it at around low-mid 40's, but would probably start at $48,500 and work down from there.

As with anything, its a buyers market and with the new 2011 highline, people have to really want an R36 for its namesake over buying a newer model and at the end of the day, it is worth what someone is willing to pay.

    My 2c worth

    Thanks for the response PASHN8,

No although I bought the car just at the tail end of 2008 it is the updated model. Touch screen stereo, on screen parking display etc. etc. It's still under warrenty for another 2 months - so extension would be possible.

What should I be advertising it as MY09 or is there terminology for the 2008 with upgrade - how should I check?

    Thanks again,

    Ben

I should have also said that is doesn't have a huge amount of optional extras but it has a full VW Service History and as mentioned has only done 26,000 kms.

    You're welcome

What colour is the MFD, red or white? Can you list the options?

The rego label does play a huge role in the sale though as we found our recently with my partners Mazda 2 when we sold it.
Car was also a MY09, but registered as a 2008. No matter how much we tried explaining to people that it was the same as buying a 2009, all they saw was the rego label unfortunately.

A warranty extension would be around $2k, though i'm not sure you'd get that back in sale price. What it would do is put your car at the top of the priority list for buyers giving them that peace of mind.
Some details of a car give you a higher asking price, some items are 'sweeteners' in getting it to move quicker than an equivalent vehicle.
Even though its a MY09, the rego label is still going to be a deciding factor for many people who don't understand the scheme.

You could easily start at $52,500 ONO, and do regular significant price drops every few weeks/months if you aren't getting enquiry.
I've had around 40 cars over the last 15 years, and the one thing that holds true, is if you are getting ZERO inquiry when its up for sale, the price is too high. Keeping dropping it $500 until you get your first inquiry, as once you get your first inquiry, it means you're 'in the ballpark' for current values

A mate just picked up a 16k km wagon (MY10.5) from a Sydney dealer. Not sure what's in it but no Nav or Bluetooth.

The dealer had reduced it from $65k to $62k and wasn't prepared to budge.

    Yeah dreaming!
That's a $56-$60k car any day of the week privately! I guess they have to try and make their money somewhere!
