    Sunblind for rear windows

    Hi all,

Did anyone out there in Passat land have the rear window sunlinds fitted? I'm refering to the rear side windows.
I have 2 kids and I'm wondering whether I should have them fitted to help block out the sun. If anyone has them, or has seen them, can you please tell me whether they run the entire width of the window or only part of the main glass. Most that I've seen on other cars are no where near wide enough to block out the sun in any effective way.
I'm hoping VW's might be better.

    Cheers
    Sean

I am also intereted in getting rear sunblinds and have not yet found the ideal solution:

    * The factory fitted version are the best solution, but they are not available as an option in Australia and would cost serious $$$$ to retrofit because it actually forms part of the door trim.

    * The aftermarket versions look a bit dodgey - let me know if you find some that fit.

Just get some dark tints. I have 17% all round, and my daughter has no trouble sleeping in broad daylight.

Yeah I'm thinking that's probaly the best way to go.
Are you able to please post a pic of your car that shows the tint?
Does the tint have an adverse effect on AM radio reception?

    This is a 15% tint.

I haven't had any adverse effects on radio reception, and the difference in temp on the inside of the car is amazing.

I got a dye based tint on the rear window (metallic on the rest), as I couldn't find any information about where the GPS aerial was located. If you're unsure about AM reception this option is fail safe.

    Gead,

I have had the same guy doing my families windows for about 6 years, mobile service in Sydney. PM me if you want the details.

    $350 for the job.

Re - Legality. No the windows are not legal. 35% is the darkest legal tint. I have been running 15% on all cars for a long time and never had a problem.

People say insurers can deny a claim based on having dark windows but it is rubbish. I work in the industry and have asked the question, and the answer is no.

The windows do not look ridiculous, and do not attract attention of the plod.

The really dark windows you see, where the driver is not visible at all are 5% tints. I would not recommend those (tried it once).

The window tinting bloke has a car with all the window tinting livery, and runs 15% all round. If anyone was likely to be caught by the cops - it would be him eh?

Finally the tinter will not give you a tax invoice for the job, for reasons above. I can personally vouch for the quality of the work, and if anything has ever been wrong (one car had a bubble on the passenger window) he came back promptly and repaired it.

Sometimes I'm a cyclist, and tints this dark are a problem, because you cannot see if the driver has seen you at intersections. A bit scary!
