    Strange lighting

I have a Passat V6 Sportspack Highline wagon with standard headlights.

I usually drive with my headlights on, I do know that the daytime running lights turn off when the headlights are on.

When arriving at work today, a fellow worker noticed that when I turned into the driveway, the right front foglight was on but the left one was off. I was turning right into the driveway.

My fellow worker and I decided to check wkat was going on, so I started the car and checked the head light operation. Turned headlights on and confirmed that the foglights were on (??), even though they were turned off at the switch(!!??). I drove out of the driveway and once I started to drive, the foglights went off!

Turned right into my driveway again and the same thing happened with the foglights, the right one was on and the left one was off.

I am wondering if the foglights come on when the headlights are on at low speed when starting and when at low speeds they also turn on when using the indicator to light the road. Has anyone checked their light operation to see if this occurs?

What you are referring to as the fog light I think is in fact the static cornering light. It is triggered when your headlights are on & it will only turn on the side to which you are turning. I think they may actually come on once your turn signal is activated & headlights are on.

The foglight I am referring to, which comes on when you switch on the foglight switch, is the outer light under the bumper next to the daytime running light.

The foglights = static cornering lights also...

Put the car in reverse, both sides of the static cornering lights turn on (maybe whilst in Park as well) helps you see what your steer axle is doing and what it may swing into (dark Euro underground carpark etc)....

Put it in drive, wheels forward static cornering lights switch off,

In Drive, turn the wheel off center, that side's cornering light switches on up to some low speed of 25kmh or whatever (too low for my liking).

In drive , wheels straight , blinker on ... that sides cornering light also switches on (up to some low speed as per above... )

My only criticism is if you want to wind it up a switchback road eg Galston, you dont get the benefits of cornering lights coz you are going to fast... but the beuty of the Foglights being the cornering lights.... is you turn your foggies on and these throw the light out the sides due to their dual use...

Used this to great effect on Browns Mountain on the weekend, got the light wrapping around on the switchbacks, and light up the roos and wombats by the side of the road (ah the olympic spirit... one pair of wombats were greco-roman wrestling in the gutter!!!)

I didn't realise they come on when reversing. Will check that out.

Given mine has LED daytime lights, I wonder when the "non-foglights" under the bumper are triggered?

Great idea re the manually turning on the fog lights. I have the same issues when feeling like a sprint up the black spur & have found it to be the same issue.
