Stop Start - what PMO with my Passat

What a complete PITA the Bluemotion Stop/Start system is when combined with Hill Hold and DSG!

Problem is my normal drive has lots of hill starts and if I don't remember to turn off Stop/Start everytime I get into the car, I have the extremely annoying and frustrating complication with the Hill Hold that when I take my foot off the brake when I stop (the whole point of Hill Hold), the bloody car starts again - this can be almost instantanious to the point where the engine hasn't quite stopped, and is then trying to restart - bloody stupid system IMHO to the point where Stop Start, Hill Hold and DSG are useless when all activated together! I understand why this must happen (vacuum), but I like the Hill Hold so tend to use that, just that I have to remember to turn the S/S off every day. What I want is S/S off by default, not on. But seems you can only disable it completely? Probably what I'll end up doing unless anyone has another work around?

Hired a nifty Audi A1 turbo petrol in Melbourne on the weekend and nobody told us it had s/s, so when it stopped at the major lights leaving the airport I did the wrong thing, put in N and tried to restart it!!! Finally it twigged and off we went as releasing the brake started the engine, but it got me thinking on how it would work with Hill Hold in a Passat. And you have answered it....it doesn't, and given the DSG will rollback on steep inclines (especially if front down and trying to reverse), this is a nonsense!

Hopefully, your dealer can set it using VCDS but otherwise, that's really dumb

I have found the opposite with the hold function.

Reversing into garage car stopped when it hit lip of floor In a hurry didnt notice and dropped door down only for it to land on my week old cars bonnet.
I thought it had rolled back to the marker I have on the floor, unfortunately not!!!!!!!!

    Have never used it since.

The Passat also has the anti rollback function so shouldnt roll back on you even when not using the Hold.

Not many hills where I live but when on a hill it has worked for me.

Just learn to antcipate the lights and lift off the brake a bit earlier to allow engine to restart sooner and all will be good.

My MY08 passat wagon does not have auto roll back, which I found strange compared to all the other gadgets on the car. Does any one know if I need to enable it by some button??

Also does the auto Hold function increase wear and tear on the breaks?
