    Question Sticking Brake Pedal B7

    Hi everyone,

After some guidance on this please. Have had my New (demo) Passat sedan for 2 weeks now. Has just clocked 5000km's.

At times, when touching the brake pedal, there is a slight resistance at the very first movement of the pedal, then it moves through its pedal range normally. Having driven many late model VW's, this is not normal. THey normally travel very smoothly. And also, it is bloody annoying as each time you press the brake pedal, it feels like there is something, ever so slightly, holding the pedal at the top of its range then it releases and works fine. I have pumped the pedal through its full range of operation a few times and this makes it happy for a few minutes then it starts this rubbish again.

It does not do it everytime, but most times if there is sufficent time (a few minutes) between brake pedal presses.

Could it be something as simple as adjusting the range of the push rod into the booster?

I have to drive from Tamworth to Sydney on Wednesday and return Friday, so I am hoping it is a simple and quick fix because the wait time on VW service here can be a week or 2.

    Cheers

    Shane

Yeah tried it with and without mate, seems to be the same. However, thinking back to when I first got it, a few days when I was reversing out of my garage going to work in the morning, I heard the squeal of brakes.... it has stopped that now.

Thinking carefully, perhaps it isn't as bad when the auto hold is enabled.... however this needs to be tested more tomorrow before describing fault to service dept on Monday.

Yeah best to get them to look at it could me caused by bad brake bedding when new or a rock got stuck in there somehow. Look at the disc and see if theres any uneven wear

Great suggestion, thanks mate. This forum is gold dust. Will check in the morning. I will add that the brake performance is outstanding though

I wonder if the issue might be caused by a small amount of air in the system from the factory?

Ok, attended VW service at 8am and the tech jumped straight in for a test. Initially couldn't feel it but within a couple minutes started to comment on the pedal feel. Normally a 2 week wait on repairs here, but they asked to leave the car all day today and they will run diagnostics. Tech suggested ABS module might be having a bit of an issue... Will update this arvo .

No change, thought there was but it has settled back the exact same way, oh well, was worth a try. The techs re-coded the ABS unit and said they checked associated equipment. Felt better initially but soon reverted back to the same slight sticking at the top of the pedal travel when you first apply pressure ot the pedal.

Could it be the front assist playing a role in the braking.

Mine does the same thing. It only does it after you haven't touched the pedal for a few minutes. I haven't worried about it as the Tiguan was exactly the same and I did over 70000k's in that.

Did you notice any characteristics such as when the engine is cold it was more prominent? Yesterday on both occasions i gave the car a decent 20 minute run, the symptom was massively reduced and often was non existent.

No, it does it when I first touch the brake after starting off. If I don't touch the brake for maybe around 10 minutes or so, it will do it again. If I'm in stop start traffic, it doesn't do it because I'm on and off all the time. Hope that makes sense. It's not a big deal, but I can feel it. I reckon it catches at about 10mm in. If it's the same as mine, I wouldn't be worried about it. From memory, I think it got better on the Tig as the k's got higher.
