    Question Steering column lock defective!

    Hi Guys,

Getting this error more & more often now when trying to start my 2010 Passat TDI. Since I only just replaced the battery with a heavy duty VARTA (Silver Dynamic 780CCA 78Ahr) in April, I notice the issue only occurs when its cold.

So before I book it in with the dealer just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue and could it be low voltage whilst cranking (I'll take battery back to the shop to get tested if that's the case) causing the fault which disappears once the key fob is removed & engine restarted.

I've even tried lately pushing the key fob in until all the lights go out before actually cranking the engine & turned off the headlights but like I said I'm not convinced it's a cold start issue or whether the immobiliser or steering column module is perhaps faulty or should I even try the spare key fob?

The ESCL is tied in with the immobiliser, so dealership only, I'm afraid.
